Job Description

Lead of Mechanical Engineering ? LNG ProjectJob Purpose:

  • Responsible for overseeing mechanical engineering activities in NFS Onshore Project, ensuring all technical requirements such as project specifications, data sheets, etc. are in full compliance with project requirements, standardised processes, and are delivered to the highest technical quality standards.
  • Perform a cold eye review of the NFS FEED mechanical deliverables and propose changes, if considered mandatory.
  • During the ITT phase, provide technical information/clarifications requested by the bidders.
  • During the EPC phase, provide clear guidance to the EPC contractor, sub-contractors and vendors and facilitate resolution of mechanical technical issues to complete mechanical engineering activities to meet project objectives and milestones.
  • During start-up and early operations phases, until the performance tests completion, provide ad hoc field engineering assistance.
Job Context & Major Challenge(s):
  • This position is responsible to ensure all technical activities associated with the mechanical engineering discipline by the EPC contractor, and all third parties such as vendors, consultants, sub-contractors, etc, are executed to NFS Project?s specifications and QG requirements.
  • This will involve technical evaluations, including risk-based evaluation of complex engineering issues, resolution of mechanical related matters with significant project execution and/or commercial impact to ensure optimum outcomes to meet technical and execution expectations.
  • Major challenges for this role include (1) effectively managing EPC contract and mechanical engineering team to produce timely deliverables up to Provisional Acceptance Certificate (PAC), (2) maintaining constructive working relationship with EPC contractor to ensure delivery of engineering work scope in accordance with project requirements, (3) maintaining proper relationship with key stakeholders (e.g. Operations), and (4) to ensure high quality of mechanical engineering deliverables.
  • Delivering a very large scope of work to achieve project expectations.
  • Required to contribute to other multi-disciplinary tasks whilst providing expertise in mechanical specialised/discipline area.
  • Expertise with large pressure vessels / exchangers / columns / boilers / fired heaters / tanks and equipment in cryogenic services is a must.
  • Possess experience with the Package Equipment.
Key Job Accountabilities:
  • Accountable for ensuring execution of work is technically aligned and in compliance with Qatargas Operations, Policies, Standards of Business Conduct and Qatargas Project Management System (QGPMS).
  • Perform a cold eyes review of key mechanical FEED deliverables
  • During the ITT phase, provide technical information/clarifications requested by the bidders.
  • Leads mechanical engineering design and planning activities and ensures EPC contractor develops detailed design in accordance with local regulatory requirements, industry standards, project specifications and any approved variations.
  • Resolve mechanical discipline issues to ensure engineering design addresses NFS Project?s expectations and objectives. Communicate and elevate issues before they escalate to Project Management when necessary.
  • Review technical aspects of mechanical equipment purchase orders with EPC Contractor and vendors in accordance with the roles and responsibilities stated in applicable contract(s) to ensure safe and seamless integration of new mechanical equipment into the existing operating facilities (when applicable).
  • Assess discipline plans and work schedules to ensure effective completion of project activities and provide data (narrative, charts, graphs), change management recommendations and recovery plans to address any schedule delays.
  • Develop, update and amend design / project philosophies, specifications and procedures ensuring that all references to Mechanical Engineering are current and relevant.
  • Monitor and provide guidance to EPC Contractor to ensure key discipline deliverables, progress/milestones are met. Recommend additional technical support where necessary to address gaps.
  • Coordinate and analyse discipline issues for resolution. Provide Mechanical Engineering input to other engineering disciplines, construction, procurement etc as necessary. Support commissioning, start-up and system completing activities and make appropriate recommendations to management on Mechanical matters.
  • Plan and schedule Mechanical Engineering deliverables to enable efficient execution in meeting project milestones/schedule
  • Leads Mechanical interface coordination with NFS offshore, RLIC, or any third party, as required, during the NFS ITT and EPC phases.
  • Contribute to Safety analysis studies and provide the required input to support project management in key decisions making. Participate in sharing lessons learned, together with capturing current lessons learned to benefit future projects
