Job Description

SummaryResponsible of monitoring patient medical records for relevant diagnostic and procedure information and assigns corresponding codes according to standard coding guidelines maintaining productivity.Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  1. Works closely with clinical documentation team and health care providers in evaluating inpatient coding provide recommendations to improve the quality of the coded data.
  2. Performs audits and ensures quality and accuracy of coding and coded data.
  3. Assists with the maintenance of various patient indexes and databases. Provides patient information retrieval assistance to researchers, finance and others as needed..
  4. Provides training and education for coding staff in coding, documentation and serve as a resource for inpatient and ambulatory coding inquires..
  5. Liaisons with Revenue Cycle team ensure timely coding and answer any denials clams inquires as needed.
  6. Reviews third party coding audits findings and provide feedback to department Head and Manager.
  7. Evaluates templates and documentation processes in the electronic medical record, and make recommendations to ensure accurate coding.
  8. Performs frequent Diagnosis Related Groups (DRGs) and case mix reviews to identify clinical documentation gaps.
  9. Reviews coding queries for appropriateness, timeliness, and check physicians feedback and agreement rates.
  10. Responsible for thoroughly knowing and utilizing all coding systems both inpatient and outpatient according to the most recent rules, regulations and conventions.
  11. Reviews patient medical records for all relevant diseases and assigns corresponding International Classification of Disease (ICD) codes according to standard coding guidelines.
  12. Maintains coding skills and professional credentials with appropriate continuing education by reading and applying coding materials and policies.
  13. Follows all Hospitals related Policies and Procedures.
  14. Participates in self and others education, training and development, as applicable.
EducationMasters, Bachelors Degree or Associate Degree/Diploma in Health Information Management, Hospital Administration, Health Allied field, or other related discipline is required.Experience RequiredFour (4) years of related experience with Masters, or six (6) years of related experience with Bachelors Degree, or eight (8) years of related experience with Associate Degree/Diploma is required.Other Requirements(Certificates)
  • Completion of Hospital and SCFHS approved Coder Training Program is required.
  • Certified advanced level Clinical Coding Certificate (CCC) is preferred.
  • Current Registration from country of origin and Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCHS) is required.
