Job Description

Role Summary:SAR is looking for a senior-level Track Technical Specialist to support the track maintenance in order to ensure that Track Assets are maintained in compliance with SAR Standards, the role of Technical Engineer (Track) provides the survey and inspection data to allow the TMM to make informed decisions when prioritizing maintenance activities. The role is also fundamental in satisfying the inspection criteria of several SAR Standards.Role Responsibilities:

  • Carry out work safely and in accordance with the safe systems of work procedures, method statements, plans and other instructions
  • Manage and check the quality of work delivered and confirm assets are compliant to standards.
  • Manage the preparation of work and resource specifications, method statements and plans.
  • Manage information to update systems, databases and records including the management of Critical Rail Temperature.
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures.
  • Undertake and supervise technical tasks, Track survey and design work.
  • Prepare specifications and requisition for Track maintenance materials.
  • Contribute to your own development and that of others.
  • Produce Tamping Designs and be able to undertake Hallade Survey.
  • Provide technical support and guidance related to Track maintenance activities.
  • Ability to analyse traces from the Track Geometry Vehicle and produce an action plan including timescales.
  • Undertake technical inspections, tests, investigations and analysis of technical data e.g. Detailed Inspection of Switches and Crossings
  • Update and provide information to accurately update systems, databases and records as required.
  • Prioritise work arising and agree work plans for the group.
  • Manage processes and systems for the calibration and certification of tools and equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, & COMPETENCIES:QUALIFICATIONS: Leadership and managementCivil Engineering Degree (Batchelors) preferableAbility to undertake engineering analysis and related calculationIT Literate (Word, Excel, Viso,etc)EXPERIENCE:
  • Knowledge and experience of technical support activities and techniques.
  • Knowledge and experience of permanent way maintenance and construction management process, systems and standards.
  • Knowledge and experience of design requirements, processes and techniques.
COMPETENCIES:
  • Hold and retain the competencies relevant to this post and required by business need.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, OEM instructions and handbooks.
  • Stressing Level 1, 2 and 3
  • Detailed Inspection of switches and crossings
  • Critical Rail Temperature Management
  • Proven records of replacement of S&C components including a complete S&C layout
  • Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, with fluency in both spoken and written English language as an essential.
  • Able to demonstrate, promote and embed safe working behaviours within the team.
  • Able to coach, influence and develop others.
  • Able and willing to drive vehicles as required by business need.
COMMUNICATIONS & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS (Illustrative not exhaustive):Internal:Direct response to the TMM and relevant TMS. Provide analytical data to Engineering Department, in particular liaise with the SRME.Collaboration with other departments of SAR as appropriate.Communicate and work with Track teams to rectify identified faults in the Track.External: Collaborate with contractors and suppliers to deliver Track Maintenance activities.
