Job Description

The role of a Commis is essential in the culinary world, particularly within the catering and restaurant industry. A Commis is a junior chef who works under the supervision of a Chef de Partie, assisting in the preparation and cooking of food. This position is ideal for individuals looking to start their culinary career and gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced kitchen environment. Commis chefs are responsible for maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene while contributing to the overall success of the kitchen operations.Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in the preparation and cooking of meals according to recipes and standards set by senior chefs.
  2. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen and workstations.
  3. Support the Chef de Partie in managing inventory and ordering supplies as needed.
  4. Participate in the presentation of dishes to ensure they meet quality and aesthetic standards.
  5. Learn and apply various cooking techniques and methods under supervision.
  6. Adhere to food safety and hygiene regulations at all times.
  7. Assist in the training of new kitchen staff and interns.
  8. Help in the preparation of ingredients, including chopping vegetables and marinating proteins.
  9. Participate in kitchen meetings to discuss menu changes and improvements.
  10. Contribute to a positive team environment and collaborate with other kitchen staff.
