Job Description

Traffic Controller Overview About the job:Traffic controllers are responsible for ensuring the safety of all road users by managing traffic flow at construction sites, road closures, and other situations where traffic patterns need to be altered. They use a variety of tools to direct vehicles, pedestrians, and other traffic through an area or intersection to keep everyone safe and on schedule.Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring traffic patterns to ensure that vehicle flow is orderly and safe.
  • Adjusting traffic signals as needed in response to changing conditions such as accidents or construction work.
  • Supervising and coordinating activities of other workers involved in traffic control, including police officers, emergency responders, and maintenance workers.
  • Directing emergency vehicles where they are needed using hand signals or loudspeakers.
  • Maintaining records of traffic flow and incidents for future reference.
  • Responding to accident scenes, to direct emergency vehicles and helping with cleanup efforts.
  • Coordinating, setting up, managing, and removing traffic control.
  • Directing traffic around areas of disruption, such as roadworks, accidents, building sites and planned maintenance.
  • Directing pedestrians to maintain safety around changed vehicle and road conditions.
  • Operating road signs, such as a Stop/Slow bat, and using hand signals to direct flow of traffic and pedestrians.
  • Taking directions from supervisor, traffic authority workers, construction project managers, police officers, paramedics, firefighters, auditors, and government officials.
  • Setting up and taking down temporary road signs.
