The Surveyor, also known as geomatics/land surveyors, is a professional who estimates property boundaries and measures, marks, and delineates land features for construction projects, mapmaking, and legal purposes. They perform mathematical calculations using specialized equipment to accurately determine land measurements and create maps and reports of survey results.
Surveyors measure land features, such as depth and shape, based on reference points. They examine previous land records to verify data from on-site surveys. Surveyors also prepare maps and reports, and present results to clients.
Responsibilities:
Analyzing and building the data, as well as doing the desktop surveying using plans, maps, charts, and software such as AutoCAD and GIS programs.
Presenting data to clients and preparing reports detailing legal boundaries and other relevant information.
Collaborating and working with project managers, construction crews, and government agencies, when necessary. Also, provide guidance to field staff.
Investigate the site and establish fixed control points for use in making maps, using geodetic and engineering instruments.
Analyzing the data and verifying the accuracy of survey data, including measurements and previous records calculations conducted at survey sites.
Taking measurements of distances and angles on a property or section of land to establish and delineate legal boundaries and reference points.
Employing specialized equipment, including distance measuring wheels, GPS, and geographic information system (GIS) devices to measure boundaries and contours.
Performing mathematical calculations to determine and confirm surveying measurements.
Researching and consulting historical maps and surveys, as well as legal documents, relating to the property or section of land they are measuring.
