Job Description

JOB PURPOSEWFP Palestine needs a professional who will lead and coordinate livelihoods and resilience activities within the Country Office, while also enhancing coordination and support with other stakeholders, including the Palestinian Authority, UN agencies, NGOs, research institutes. They will also need to lead programme design efforts and manage relevant budgets. The Activity Manager will be overseeing the Livelihoods & Resilience Team.The position will be needed for 11 months.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  • Lead the program design, management and oversight of WFP resilience programming:
  • Provide project management support to specific and defined programmes and projects, including but not limited to vocational trainings and agricultural support;
  • Ensuring a coordinated approach with other programmes that complies with WFP standards and procedures in order to contribute to a food systems approach in Palestine;
  • Directly supervise national staff working on resilience projects and coordinate the efforts of other WFP staff who are working to support the implementation of resilience projects;
  • Provide technical advice or mobilize technical expertise on programme and policy issues including assessment and analysis, the choice of objectives, activities, transfer modalities and appropriate food products, the deployment and testing of innovative approaches and the development of strategies to support government efforts to reduce hunger and malnutrition;
  • Establish and maintain operational partnerships, including with relevant government ministries, to identify opportunities for collaborative approaches and initiatives that improve assistance packages and support advocacy work;
  • Manage the preparation and dissemination of timely analytical and critical reports, publications, and a variety of information products or proposals for internal or external use;
  • Contribute to resources mobilizations efforts for WFP projects, including clearly articulating the need for food assistance and related programme opportunities, and follow up on the resource situation of projects including commodity and cash availability, seeking advice from senior colleagues where necessary;
  • Ensure all livelihoods activities are conflict sensitiveby working closely with Peace & Conflict Advisors in HQ and the Regional Bureau;
  • Act as WFP Palestines focal point for engagement with the Food Security Sector. Attend Food Security Sector meetings, actively participate in discussions, represent WFP strategic interests, summaries discussions to highlight areas of interest/opportunities/challenges for WFP Palestine with recommendations for action.
  • Proactively suggest opportunities and approaches for enhanced coordination with a focus on livelihoods and resilience, but also in relation to other sector issues directly relevant to WFP plans and programmes
  • Provide operational leadership and examples into sector working groups and other topic-specific smaller inter-agency discussions.
  • Where relevant, ensure WFP Palestine colleagues with functional interest, expertise or inputs are involved to either engage directly in sector discussions or provide inputs so that the focal point can appropriately reflect all aspects of WFPs inputs and engagement in inter-agency discussions
  • Advise on partnership opportunities internally and externally to strengthen WFP Palestines Nexus humanitarian-development-peace approach, particularly related to livelihood support and social protection, to enhance WFP?s integrated programming with other stakeholders
  • Perform any other duties required.
