Learn more at civiliansinconflict.org. About the Position CIVIC?s Iraq team promotes civilian protection through research, advocacy, and trainings in Federal Iraq and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Our Erbil-based researcher is seeking a part-time detail-oriented intern to support on three unique research products during winter and spring 2022. The selected candidate will benefit from working with a dynamic and supportive team, learning about social science research and advocacy methods, while contributing to important policy papers and research outputs. CIVIC interns have gone on to work with international non-governmental organizations, governments, and think tanks. Key Functions * Conducting media monitoring in Arabic and Kurdish; * Learning how to assist in development of research methodologies, interview processes, and qualitative data analysis; * Performing in-depth desk research to support research products; * Monitoring and reporting on local conflicts and political developments relevant to research products; * Attending and reporting on in-country meetings and events as needed; * Copy-editing and reviewing organizational documents including communications, press releases, blog posts, and op-eds; * Functioning as a self-sustaining member of our team. Requirements and Preferred Qualifications * This internship is open to current graduate level students, those who have recently completed graduate studies, or those with an undergraduate degree and relevant work experience; * Fluency in Arabic and English required, additional fluency in Kurdish preferred; * Applicants should be flexible and have confidence in handling multiple tasks, as well as the ability to work independently; * Applicants are expected to have excellent writing and research skills and should anticipate using these skills frequently; * Interns will be expected to maintain a level of confidentiality and discretion when working with sensitive information. Additional Details + This is a part-time internship with the expectation of 20 hours per week of engagement, with flexibility for busier periods. + Intern candidates should be available to begin work on 16 January, 2022 and continue through May 2022. + This is an unpaid internship; Interns receive a small daily stipend to cover transportation. + Applications should be submitted in English. + Resumes are reviewed on a rolling basis so please apply early.
