Job Description - PrincipalPurpose: To provide professional leadership and management of the school that will promote a secure foundation from which to achieve high standards in all area of the school's work. The principal has the primary responsibility for the quality of education, the health and safety of children and students, and the administrative, financial and operational aspects of leading and managing the school.The principal is the school?s representative during school inspections and is the person accountable forthe school performance and standards. The principal reports to the Board through the Director of Schools.KRA 1: Strategic direction and shaping the future1. Work with school and group management to ensure that the school vision and mission are approved by MOE, are clearly articulated, widely shared and understood, and practiced by all stakeholders.KRA 2: Managing the organization1. Create an organization structure that reflects the school?s values, and enables the management systems, structures and processes to work effectively in line with statutory requirements.2. Manage the school?s financial effectively and efficiently to achieve the school?s educational goals and priorities.3. Recruit, retain and deploy staff appropriately and implement robust performance management system to achieve the school?s educational goals and priorities 4. Demonstrate and articulate high expectations and set stretching targets for the whole school community.5. Establish a culture of treating people fairly, equitably and with dignity and respect.6. Motivate and work with others to create a shared culture and positive climate.KRA 3: Securing accountability1. Work with the management (providing information and regular reports) to enable it to meet its responsibilities and meet all accountabilities to management. 2. Ensure individual staff accountabilities are clearly defined, understood and agreed and are subject to rigorous review and evaluation through the performance management system.3. Regularly provide an accurate account of the school?s performance to owners, governors and parents KRA 4: Improvement planning and implementation 1. Produce and implement clear, evidence-based school improvement plans. 2. Create a calendar for and implement regular reviews through lesson observations and work scrutinyKRA 5: Learning and teaching1. Implement strategic planning and resource management that ensure consistent and continuous school-wide focus on pupils? achievement, using data and benchmarks to monitor progress in every child?s learning. 2. Establish and implement a diverse, flexible curriculum 3. Implement a robust assessment framework that truly tracks student progress and provides inputs for curriculum adaptation and lesson modification.4. Implement strategies that secure high standards of behavior and attendance.5. Imbibe new and emerging technologies to enhance and extend the learning experience of pupils, preparing them for a future world6. Ensure a culture and ethos of challenge and support where all pupils can achieve success and become engaged in their own learning.KRA 6: Personal and Social Development1. Collaborate with agencies to provide for the academic, spiritual, moral, social, emotional and cultural well-being of pupils and their families.2. Ensure a range of community-based learning experiences.3. Implement Educare program for safeguarding.KRA 7: Developing self and the team.1. Set personal targets, taking responsibility for own personal development and regularly review own practice.2. Develop and implement procedures and a calendar for staff induction, professional development and performance reviews.3. Maintain communication with central office staff and group schools to bilaterally share good practices and promote a collaborative learning culture.KRA 8: Strengthening community1. Create and maintain effective partnership with parents and local community that lead to improved pupil achievement and personal development.2. Seek opportunities to invite parents and careers, community figures, businesses or other organizations into the school to enhance and enrich the school and its value to the wider community.3. Create representational advisory committees (Parents, staff and students) and school governing board. Requirements1. Relevant and appropriate teaching experience and preferably holds teaching qualifications;2. Experience of no less than five cumulative years in educational leadership in the same or similar curriculum schools, where the candidate has held such positions as vice principal, head of section(s), or head of department, if the candidate has not been a principal before;3. For a first-time principal candidate and for a candidate newly recruited to Dubai, an advanced (post-graduate) university degree/diploma/qualification in educational matters (or the equivalent thereof), or evidence he/she is working towards obtaining such a degree from a recognised institution.
