Research Scientist - Aquaculture

Job Description

In this role as a Research Scientist ? Aquaculture is responsible to support the Aquaculture Senior Researcher in the development and management of the aquaculture research programs of the Yas SeaWorld Research and Rescue Center, with an overall focus on nutrition, physiology, health, hatchery production, larviculture, husbandry, conservation projects and sustainable practices for the aquaculture of tropical and sub-tropical marine species including local and ornamental fish.Job Scope:

• Provides technical, scientific, and strategic support to the Senior Researcher ? Aquaculture with regards to the development of the aquaculture research programs.
• Plans, manages and delivers aquaculture research projects as validated by the Senior Researcher - Aquaculture.
• Leads and supports the production of high-quality research reports, scientific publications and other communication material.
• Participates in the daily operations of the aquaculture laboratory and to give assistance on any aquaculture research projects as required.
• Develops collaborative research with YSWRRC colleagues and to actively promote external contacts and networks for local and international collaboration.
• Contributes to the development of proposals for major research/conservation grants and funding programs.
• Ensures the adequate use and maintenance of all aquaculture facilities and equipment of the YSWRRC.
• Supervises students and coordinate collaborating scientists.
• Conducts research effectively by maintaining accurate records of experiments and analyses performed, conducting relevant literature searches and maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of all current methods of experimentation.
• Follows guidelines and protocols for lab operations and procedures and to disseminate that information to research staff and students working in the aquaculture laboratory.
• Actively contribute to the outreach goals and education programs of the YSWRRC.
• Collaborates with SeaWorld Abu Dhabi Zoological and Education Teams as required.
• Contributes to the overall success of the YSWRRC projects by performing all other duties as assigned.

• Master?s Degree in Aquaculture Science or related fields.
• 4 years of research experience in a Marine Aquaculture Research facility.
• 3 years of experience with hatchery and nursery techniques, larviculture, live feed and/or brood stock management.
• Demonstrated ability in publishing research results in refereed scientific journals and peer-reviewed publications.
• Excellent English verbal and written communication skills, particularly in communicating research findings to non-academic audiences.
• Ability to represent the Yas SeaWorld Research and Rescue Center to community, media, government and non-governmental agencies, private farms and aquaculture associations.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and teamwork abilities.
• Demonstrated commitment to company values and safety.

• PhD in Aquaculture Science or related fields.
• 2 years of experience in Research Project Management.
• Evidence of success in mentoring graduate and post-graduate students.
• Evidence of community engagement and academic outreach.
• Evidence of ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams.
• Ability to contribute to the development of international collaboration.
• Evidence of multicultural skills in the workplace is an advantage.
