Since its inception in 2020, we have facilitated the donation of well over 1 million meals to those in need, as well as donated over $1.5 million to charity with the help of our partners and customers. talabat is part of Delivery Hero, the global leader in online food delivery and q-commerce.As Principal Software Engineer - Backend, you will work on our next generation ordering platform to create a smooth and easy ordering experience for our customers. This is a role that spans across multiple levels i.e. team level (strategic initiatives/mentorship), chapter level (leading contributor) as well as scaling the wider tech org.If youre a creative problem solver who is hungry for a new adventure, an international workplace is waiting for you.Core Responsibilities:

• Collaborate closely with the most senior engineers from other disciplines as well as engineers from within the wider Backend Chapter
• Guide teams and fosters a culture to create an architecture that scales
• Foster collaboration and knowledge sharing between teams
• Promote and guides cross-team initiatives to improve the system
• Strive for reduction of complexity of both systems and processes, by finding simple, pragmatic solutions while maximizing impact
• Critically question and drive improvement of our processes and solutions
• Reason about tradeoffs and evaluate new solutions to elevate your team and tech organization
• Stay very close to competitive technology landscape
• Participate in defining hiring standards for other engineers
• Define engineering principles, standards and practices for the Chapter to follow
• Inspire other talented engineers in cross-functional, self-organized team, working in an agile development environment to discover, innovate, implement, deploy and own end-to-end complex software solutions
• Build & understand your business domain and work with product as well as the business stakeholders to drive desired outcomes

The following experience is relevant to us

• 8-10+ years of experience in software engineering
• Respected as a top engineer across teams, deeply specialized experience in one field, influencer and evangelizer, helps represent talabat externally to attract talent
• Solve the most challenging technical problems
• Expert level experience building large-scale applications using modern programming languages (e.g. C#, Java, Go, etc.)
• Wide experience in different technology stacks, tools, and practices such as DevOps
• Deep understanding of design patterns and best practices in relevant technologies like cloud environments, CI/CD, testing
• Experience working with agile practices and exceptional understanding of lean/agile values & principles
• Ownership and responsibility for P&T as well as the wider org practices and processes and their continuous improvement
• Excellent in testing and TDD, focusing on automated end to end quality
• Very proficient with cloud platforms with focus on AWS
• Exceptional understanding and experience of building applications in distributed systems architecture (Microservices, Event-Driven and RESTful Services)
• Solid experience working with Relational database and NoSQL (e.g. SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Redis)
• Experience with CI/CD tools and techniques
• Exceptional teaching, mentoring and coaching skills and ability to influence the wider tech organization
