Discover a world of opportunities at Abbott.Job Summary:The Paralegal for the METAP (Middle East, Turkey, Africa & Pakistan) Region is charged with supporting all METAP lawyers (as well as handling some matters directly) with all Abbott businesses operating in the METAP region. will be based in Dubai and will report to the Legal Director - METAP.Core Job Responsibilities & Competencies:Provides legal services and resolves legal matters for assigned responsibilities or clients. Supports the business in the achievement of business objectives by communicating advice of the Legal Department and managing legal risks to the corporation.The Paralegal position is a junior position within Abbott?s Legal Division. The Paralegal:

• Performs substantive legal work that requires knowledge of legal concepts and identifies basic legal issues related to assigned matter;

• Resolves routine legal matters in area of responsibility with direct supervision from more experienced Legal Counsels;

• Assists more experienced legal counsel in resolving legal issues on projects involving multiple disciplines within the Legal Division and/or multiple functional areas or divisions within Abbott;

• Developing knowledge of Abbott?s business and client areas supported;

• Assist in managing external counsel across METAP, including engagement responsibilities;

• Developing a knowledge base for the METAP region including compiling a database of unique contract templates and tracking KPIs and metrics for the METAP legal department;

• Assists METAP Counsel identifying training needs and assists in development and presentation of training and education regarding legal requirements and developments;

• Will take an active role in communicating the successes of the METAP legal team on internal Abbott forums including Yammer; and

• Reviewing press and other databases for new laws relevant to METAP and courses/information of value for METAP counsels.

Relationships:This is a cross-functional position that will interact with the Legal, Compliance, and the Commercial Business teams.Equipment:Utilizes a personal computer and a variety of standard office equipment including telephone, copier, printers, fax, etc. Works with a wide range of equipment/systems such as PCs with Windows-based operating systems.Qualifications: Law degree or local equivalent.Experience/Training Requirements:

• Prior experience as a paralegal in private practice and in-house if possible.
• 5-8 years of relevant experience.

Understanding and experience in following areas desirable:

• Regulatory law
• General understanding/experience in Intellectual Property (patents, trademarks)
• National and applicable international antitrust and competition law (specifically re: parallel trade, technology transfer, research & development)
• General Corporate Law
• Criminal Law/Anti-bribery Law
• Ethics & Compliance
