Job SummaryMedical technologists analyse samples of blood, tissue and body fluids to determine chemical content, cell count, drug levels or blood type. Preparing the samples for examination, using automated equipment and specialised instrumentation, performing numerous complicated tests simultaneously, and accurately interpreting the results are all part of a medical technologists job.Duties and Responsibilities? Use, maintain and troubleshoot laboratory analysers and equipment according to policies and procedures.? Perform and observe haematological, biochemical, serological, and other requested tests on patients? specimens and correctly record the results.? Verify results after careful review of patient history and previous results.? Perform quality control for test systems, ensuring validity and accuracy.? Participate in proficiency testing programs and the laboratory accreditation process.? Perform other tasks as delegated by the laboratory manager.? Perform phlebotomy procedures as necessary.? Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; and participating in professional societies.? Maintains inter- and intradepartmental work flow by fostering a spirit of cooperation.? Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.? Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control, hazardous waste and other safety policies and procedures.? Maintains patient confidence and protects the clinic by keeping information confidential.
