Inclusion Higher Level Teaching Assistant (AY 2022-23) - West Yas Academy - (220000CK)DescriptionAldar Academies is currently seeking an Inclusion Assistant at West Yas Academy on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi commencing September 2022.This is an exciting opportunity to join the highly successful Aldar family of schools and to help shape the future of Abu Dhabi?s leading school group.West Yas Academy opened in September 2016 providing high quality education to the Emirate. The children are taught the Massachusetts Common Core Curriculum ? tailored to be meaningful to children attending the school, alongside the local curriculum of Arabic, Islamic Studies and Social Studies. Facilities at the school are excellent and include a large astro-turf field, two swimming pools, well stocked library, a large multi-purpose sports hall, an auditorium and outdoor play areas.We provide a warm, friendly and supportive environment where students enjoy learning and achieving in an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust.In a short period of time the school has achieved outstanding levels of progress and attainment, supported by rigorous tracking of assessment data. We have highly dedicated and talented staff, mainly from the USA/UK, who work in partnership with parents to ensure success for all.The successful candidates will be closely aligned with our core values and ethos and possess a genuine understanding and appreciation of the values of the region.Job Purpose:Provide early intervention to promote the educational and social development of identified pupil/s under the direction and guidance of the Head of Inclusion and Class Teacher.Main Duties:

  • Provide support for individual pupils, within a group context or individually, both inside and outside of the classroom to enable them to fully participate in a range of activities during the school day.
  • Be proactive in matters relating to health and safety.
  • Assist in the implementation of individual education programmes for individual pupils, link to the student?s IEP goals and contribute to the monitoring of their progress and attainment.
  • Support the individual pupil/s in relation to their additional support needs e.g., academic, physical, emotional, and behavioural difficulties and help develop their social and communication skills.
  • Assist home room and subject teachers with maintaining pupil records.
  • Prepare necessary resources to assist the identified student to access or differentiate the curriculum in order to support learning.
  • Promote independence, by teaching clear and meaningful strategies to the student.
  • Support the aims of the school, comply with the requirements of health and safety, code of conduct and other relevant legislation and school policies.
  • Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality, and attendance.
  • Attend training sessions and professionals? meetings as required.
  • Work with other professionals e.g. speech therapists, occupational therapists etc, as needed.
  • Build a close working relationship with home room and subject teachers and communicate regularly and openly.
  • Understand other duties from time to time as the principal / Head of Inclusion require
Specific Duties:
  • Adhere to guidelines of confidentiality ? respecting that the Head of Inclusion, Home room and subject teachers are responsible for formal communications with parents.
  • Academic assistance
  • Giving individual instruction as prescribed by the teacher / providing group instruction where appropriate
  • Demonstrating various instructional activities
  • Monitoring work assigned by the teacher ? checking and correcting individual students work in line with school policy, while in progress.
  • Keeping individual pupil and peers on task
  • Praising and reinforcing the achievements of pupils/reporting pupil progress to the teacher
  • Prepare materials for the individual as needed, to scaffold their classroom learning.
  • Supervising individual pupil/s in the classroom, specialist lessons and other locations
  • Participating in development of behaviour policy / promoting pupils self-esteem and discipline misbehaviour in line with whole school policy
  • Attend and subsequently deliver intervention for SaLT / OT / ABA therapy to help generalise and consolidate target skills, maximising the impact of therapy.
  • Attend ECA/trips and visits.
  • Experienced IA may be asked to mentor new IA ? new IA may be asked to participate mentoring
  • Perform all other duties as requested by direct and dotted line reporting managers/ supervisors in a timely manner
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
  • A diploma in SEN
Minimum Experience:
  • Minimum of two years experience in a School.
Job Specific Knowledge & Skills:
  • Fluent English communication skills, written and oral in order to deliver clear, proactive and effective two-way communication.
  • Flexibility, personal initiative, and skills in prioritisation of tasks, enthusiastic, motivated, resilient and patient
  • Ability to work flexibly as a member of a team
  • IT skills would be desirable
  • Shows positivity when faced with change, embracing it fully
  • Ability to create a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing
  • Ability to analyse information in a systematic manner to make informed decisions.
  • Acts in a socially responsible manner
  • Knowledge of child protection and safeguarding
  • A clean enhanced Disclosure and Barring Services check or police check.
