The HDPE Welding Technician is responsible for the installation, fusion, and repair of HDPE piping systems using heat fusion and other welding techniques. This technician ensures all joints meet industry standards and project specifications for strength, safety, and durability, typically in sectors such as mining, water and wastewater, gas distribution, and civil construction.Key Responsibilities:Read and interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, and project specifications.Perform butt fusion, electrofusion, socket fusion, and extrusion welding on HDPE pipes and fittings.Inspect and prepare pipes and fittings before welding, ensuring proper alignment and cleanliness.Operate HDPE welding machines and fusion equipment according to manufacturer guidelines and safety protocols.Conduct visual inspections and pressure testing on completed joints to ensure weld quality.Maintain accurate records of welds, materials used, and test results for QA/QC documentation.Troubleshoot and repair issues with HDPE piping systems or welding equipment.Work closely with supervisors, engineers, and site personnel to coordinate work schedules and meet project deadlines.Comply with all safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA).Maintain tools, welding machines, and job site cleanliness.Requirements:High school diploma or GED (technical or vocational training in plastic welding preferred).Certification in HDPE fusion welding (e.g., McElroy, ASTM F2620, DVS, or equivalent).Minimum [X] years of experience in HDPE welding or plastic pipe installation.Strong understanding of HDPE material characteristics and welding standards.Ability to work with fusion machines, hand tools, and diagnostic equipment.Good physical condition with the ability to lift heavy materials and work in varied environments.Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and commitment to quality workmanship.Valid driver’s license (may be required for remote site work).
