• Liaise closely with the Head of Food to always ensure the smooth operation of the department.
• Support delivery of lessons, courses and events for Food Department as directed by the Head of Food.
• Collate shopping lists and shop for ingredients and consumables to ensure timely provision of all ingredients and materials for lessons, courses and events.
• Ensure effective budgeting and safe handling of funds and receipts when purchasing ingredients, equipment and consumables.
• Prepare, measure and weigh ingredients in advance of lessons courses and demonstrations as required.
• Manage stock control of all dry and perishable goods. Temperature monitoring and logging of all refrigerators and freezers.
• Maintain standards of cleanliness and organisation throughout each kitchen unit in the Food Room, preparation and collect rooms to include liaison with cleaning and maintenance staff as necessary.
• Maintain condition of all equipment to include replacement and PAT testing as necessary.
• Make sure all food is safely stored at beginning of the day and after each lesson.
• Manage and maintain supplies of consumables (e.g., takeaway containers, cleaning materials, first aid supplies etc).
• Ordering food uniforms for students and staff (e.g., aprons, chef?s whites etc).
• Administrative duties as necessary (e.g., printing and laminating of recipes, photocopying recipe booklets etc).
• Maintain and update inventory in the Food Room and storeroom.
• To assist students in class with work acting as a role model and support in their learning to help develop their skills and enhance their progress.

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications

• Level 2 certificate in food hygiene and safety (or similar).
• Experience in relevant discipline or related qualification.
• First aid qualification desirable.

Minimum Experience

• Experience of working in a school or with young people.
• Experience of working in the Technology or Food industry.
• Have knowledge of Health & Safety regulations/procedures.
• Experience of effective budgeting when purchasing equipment and materials.

Job Specific Knowledge & Skills

• Ability to work under pressure in a busy catering environment, to manage workload and to meet deadlines.
• Willingness to ?go the extra mile? and embrace new Ideas.
• Excellent working knowledge of all aspects of food hygiene and kitchen health & safety.
• Knowledge of ingredients, preparation, stock control, cleaning and maintenance of equipment.
• Full working knowledge of relevant polices/codes of practice/legislation.
• Effective communication skills to be able to develop open and constructive relationships with a wide range of young people and staff.
• Work constructively as part of a team, understanding school roles and responsibilities and your own position within these.

• A clean enhanced Disclosure and Barring Services check or police check
