Role Responsibilities JOB PURPOSE:The candidate will help provide strategic advice to clients on the structuring and issuance of green, social, sustainability and Transition bonds, including new and innovative solutions as the market evolves. The role involves leading the ESG Bond pitching efforts with clients, leading the structuring work on frameworks and execution of transactions, liaising with Independent verifiers, investors and regulators, as well as producing content and thought leadership in representing SC to external industry bodies. The candidate will be expected need to hit the ground runningThis is a Director role in the Debt Capital Markets (Sustainable Bonds) team based in Dubai. As part of the DCM (Sustainable Bonds) team, you will work closely with regional DCM originators, the relationship managers, industry teams and the broader sustainable finance teams, focused primarily on the banks expanding client base in the Middle East & Africa, and be responsible for leading the marketing and advisory efforts for sustainable bonds for all Middle East & Africa clients and execution of transactions in the region. The role will report into the Head of Sustainable Bonds.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ideating, creating and independently delivering Sustainable Bond pitches to Middle East/Africa DCM clients, including market updates and ESG structuring recommendations
  • Leading the ESG bond structuring workstream for clients, which includes drafting of green/sustainable financing frameworks and negotiation of second party opinions, working closely with the regional DCM teams
  • Keeping track of latest sustainable market developments closely to identify opportunities for SCB. Developing and maintaining databases and internal materials on the sustainable bonds market which can be used as part of pitchbooks. Disseminating information on important developments to the DCM and wider teams in a timely manner will be critical
  • Ensuring that all ESG DCM internal processes and controls are being adhered to and refined where needed
  • Developing an understanding of the sustainable debt investor base and cultivate relationship with investors and external bodies such as SPO providers, ICMA, etc.
  • Representing SC at panels / conferences on topics of sustainable finance and trends in the sustainable bonds market

EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
  • Bachelors degree; qualifications in environmental and allied areas will be a plus
  • 7-10 years of relevant banking experience including 3-4 experience in sustainable finance/ sustainable bonds.
  • Prior front office / origination roles across banking, DCM, ESG ratings, ESG analyst, ESG investing will be helpful
  • Well-versed in the sustainable bond principles e.g. from ICMA, as well as regional and global taxonomies, including EU Taxonomy and Climate Bonds Taxonomy (including latest developments)
  • Relationships and prior engagement with external bodies such as SPO providers will be helpful
  • Sound knowledge of the sustainable finance infrastructure and ecosystem, ESG ratings, climate related risks and reporting frameworks including recommendations of GRI, SASB TCFD etc
  • Strong presentation / communication skil
