Our campus reflects the very best of Birmingham through our presence in Dubai.Job summary We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced researcher and educator to the role of Assistant Professor to support the development of a health care leadership and management education and development in Dubai.The post-holder will join the Health Services Management Centre (HSMC) and lead the development of international research and education through the Universitys Dubai campus. HSMC is one of the worlds foremost centres for research, evaluation, teaching and professional development for health and social care organisations. For nearly 50 years, it has been a leading provider of management education and development to the NHS and now co-delivers the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson leadership programme with Alliance Manchester Business School and the NHS Leadership Academy. Its award-winning education is underpinned by its world-leading research, especially in areas of policy analysis, governance, quality and safety, community engagement and rapid evaluation. Its research is underpinned by significant funding from NIHR, ESRC and Wellcome and Nuffield Trusts. In particular, it leads two major NIHR-funded centres - the BRACE Rapid Evaluation Centre, which focuses on conducting rapid evaluations of promising new services and innovations in healthcare; and the School for Social Care Research, a partnership between seven universities, supporting internationally leading research in social care to improve the wellbeing of people needing care and support.The successful candidate will contribute programme and module leadership, supporting existing health care programmes in Dubai, as well as supporting the development and delivery of innovative new modules and programmes in Dubai and the wider region. The position will also support the growth of a research and development agenda within Dubai and the wider region by supporting stakeholder collaboration and engagement.Based on the UoB Dubai campus, the post holder will be expected to contribute to the taught modules delivered in the areas of health services management, leadership, innovation, and improvement, working with colleagues in the College of Medical and Dental Sciences as well as other parts of the University. They will partner with the Edgbaston-based module leads to shape and deliver the programme in line with local delivery needs in Dubai. They will also supervise dissertation projects and provide local engagement work to develop new or complementary modules and programmes relevant to health and care services in Dubai and the region. They will be essential in developing Dubai-based teaching and related disciplines and keep an active and collaborative link with staff developing the teaching and research in Birmingham. As such, they will be contributing at a senior level on a sustained basis to the whole range of teaching leadership and administration. They will be expected to contribute to academic citizenship, likely to be demonstrated through generous, mutually respectful, and supportive working relationships with all staff and students.Teaching will include: (a) development and leadership of major teaching programmes or equivalent; and (b) enhancement of the student experience or employability, that are of manifest benefit to the College and the University. It is expected that you will demonstrate a significant contribution to the advancement of teaching (policy, practice, standards) of the subject, and provide leadership in teaching and learning that is innovative to the subject area or institution, with a significant contribution to the debate nationally about teaching.Management and administration will include Departmental/School leadership and management activity with University-wide involvement - for example through sustained high-value impact knowledge transfer, enterprise, business engagement, public engagement or similar activities.
