Job Description

Job Purpose: The purpose of the Technology Specialist job is to develop and provide SME?s for a specific technology or group. The Technology Specialists will develop and utilize strong understanding of their specific technology areas, particularly in the chemistry and process safety aspects, but also in the general most effective technologies for each unit operation, equipment and Process Automation strategies within that technology. They will work close with TCAs supporting the final selection and application of Most Effective Technology (MET); the upgrades of MET; process safety evaluations; complex troubleshooting; technical learning programs; LOPA revalidations, etc.This job is in the Professional category and progression will follow Time & Grade, plus evaluation of potential to grow from GC 10 through GC 13. The Technology Specialists are the natural candidates to grow into Technology Associates roles in the future, depending on their performance, leadership and potential.Main Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

  1. Supports TCA to define, maintain, document and upgrade the Most Effective Technology (MET) with the respective Technology Licensors, or utilizing Industry, Consultants or other resources
  2. In collaboration with Process Safety Technology Leaders and Technology Associates, the Technology Specialists support the Process Safety work processes (LOPA, RC/PHAs, etc.) by developing and gradually increasing the provision of support on process risk scenarios identification, description and impact analysis; definition of Independent Protection Layers (IPLs) to mitigate the risks; and Process Safety education (Cardinal Rules, History of Incidents, etc.)
  3. Support plants to troubleshoot technology issues that require deeper understanding of process chemistry or more fundamental of process engineering / unit operations of the processes / technologies they support
  4. Supports Technology Associates to develop (or review existing) technology education modules, and deliver them to plant personnel either formally or informally on day to day interactions
  5. Coach younger Improvement and Production Engineers and assist them in developing fundamental understanding on their respective technologies
  6. Support Improvement Engineers and Project Man Reps in relation to technology selection and MET choices for inclusion in Improvement and Growth projects. May lead some of these projects some times
  7. In collaboration with Improvement Engineers and Improvement Leaders, supports benchmarking efforts by providing expected performance parameters for their technologies, from either consultation with Licensor or consultation within the TLAs
  8. Helps Technology Associate to identify and guard the Intellectual Property (IP) for their respective technology areas (Trade Secrets, Technology Manuals, Key Technical Documents)
May be required to supports Business or Corporate driven Feasibility Studies.
