Speech - Language & swallowing SpecialistJob SummaryThe Speech - language and swallowing specialist conducts treatment and programmersutilizing all aspects of modalities and methods in order to improve patients' condition.He/she will be responsible for Diagnosing, treating, and preventing speech, language,hearing and swallowing disorders. Creating treatment and therapy plans to suit theindividualized needs of a diverse population of patients. Performing screeningsdetect voice or speech and hearing disorders. Is responsible for recording and evaluatingthe patients' responses and progress throughout therapy.Major Duties and Responsibilities? Ensures through his/her actions, either directly or indirectly, that a superior quality ofmedical treatment, compassion and understanding is given to every patient served at theCare National Hospital.? Evaluates plans and performs Speech and hearing therapy treatments.? Writes evaluation assessment and maintain adequate treatment records and progressnotes for review by medical staffs.? Carries own patient case load and responsible for all duties this entails.? Participates in departmental meeting, case conference and clinical in-service.? Prepares patients for discharge from the hospital by teaching those precautions, basicprocedures and giving home instructions if necessary.? Communicates all pertinent changes in patients' condition to the Physicians and medicalstaff.? Promptly completes daily documentation of treatment.? Ensures good maintenance in the treatment area. Reports to Department Head anydamage and out of order equipment.? Acts as an advisor in clinical problems discusses diagnosis and treatment plans withmedical team.? Assists the attending Physician in determining appropriate speech therapy treatment;reviews and evaluates patient's records; schedules, performs and evaluates patient tests;recommends the most appropriate treatment for specific disabilities; submits a writtentreatment program to the Physician for concurrence.? Maintains complete records of the patients' original diagnosis, evaluation and treatmentplan; records and evaluates patients' response and discusses progress with thePhysician/Surgeon; recommends changes; advises when the patient is ready fordischarge from the therapy room.? Demonstrates proper treatment procedures to ward personnel; instructs patients andfamilies in procedures to be continued at home. As requested, plans and conductslectures and training programs for medical staff, students and community groups; plansand participates in the speech and Hearing therapy research programs.
