SummaryPerforms various activities pertaining to radiopharmaceuticals preparation with emphasis on leadership in scheduling, radiopharmacy quality control, training of new staff and students, and inventory.Essential Responsibilities and Duties1. Oversees the hot lab radiopharmacy activities, supplies, and its staff. Becomes reference in the field.Conducts continuous education for Nuclear Medicine (NM) staff.2. Prepares and dispenses radioactive pharmaceuticals used for patient diagnosis and therapy, applyingprinciples and practices of pharmacy, and radiochemistry.3. Receives radiopharmaceutical prescription from physician and reviews prescription to determinesuitability of radiopharmaceutical for intended use.4. Verifies that specified radioactive substance and reagent will give desired results in examination ortreatment procedures, utilizing knowledge of radiopharmaceutical preparation and principles of drug biodistribution.5. Calculates volume of radioactive pharmaceutical required to provide desired level of radioactivity atprescribed time, according to established rates of radioisotope decay.6. Understands and applies aseptic and a pyroge methodology during preparation activities. Thoroughlyunderstands and complies with Good Manufacturing Practice and Good Radiopharmaceutical Practiceregulations during radiopharmaceuticals handling.7. Uses standard laboratory equipment in proper manner, performs calibrations, validations andmaintenance of equipment and instruments in coordination with the supervisor.8. Understands chemical and radiochemical principles, stability protocols. Assists in establishing guidelinesfor the shelf-line determinations, assists in the preparation of SOPs.9. Prepares raw materials and reagents according to the established SOPs and assists in ordering supplies.10. Oversees radiation safety and makes sure the operation is within the guidelines. Keeps radiationexposure as low as reasonably achievable. Calibrates instruments in coordination with supervisor toensure good working order of equipment used in NM.11. Receives complaints from NM staff and assists supervisor in preparing replies or making amendments.Maintains control records for receipt, storage, preparation, and disposal of radioactive nuclei.12. Occasionally, conducts training for students and medical professionals concerning radiopharmacy use,characteristics, and compounding procedures.13. Comply with the section policies, procedures and protocols. Follow the section quality improvementprogram in accordance with CBAHI, JCI, SFDA and other accreditation agencies standards.14. Comply with the Radiation Safety Rules and Regulations of Hospital in accordance with KACST and K.A.CARE and other National or International Regulatory bodies.15. Apply ALARA principle Role within the section practice for all procedures.EducationBachelor?s Degree in Pharmacy is required or Post Graduate Degree in Radiochemistry/Radiopharmacy is required.Experience RequiredGrade 09:Four (4) years with Bachelor?s Degree of related experience is required.Grade 10:-Four (4) years of experience as a Senior Nuclear Medicine Radiopharmacist at KFSH&RC, or (Grade 09) related experience is required.-Average of annual performance appraisal at least (3.5) for the last four (4) years.-One-hundred (100) cumulative continued medical education [CME].Other Requirements(Certificates)-Current Registration from country of origin and Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCHS) is required.-Registered as a Nuclear Medicine Radiopharmacy Technologist with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or equivalent for non-Saudis is required.-Post Graduate Degree in Radiochemistry/Radiopharmacy is acceptable.
