SummaryPerforms administrative, managerial and professional work providing leadership, directing, planning, and organizing activities for ambulatory care pharmacies.Essential Responsibilities and Duties1. Assists the Director of Pharmaceutical Care in organizing and administering the Hospital Pharmacy programs. Ensures the Director of Pharmaceutical Care is informed of all matters relating to Pharmaceutical Care and its activities.2. Directs, administers and coordinates the pharmacy functions in ambulatory care pharmacies; supervises key personnel to assure completion of work assignments, personnel management and adherence to policies and procedures.3. Provides guidance and direction for area managers and staff in carrying out their responsibilities.4.Assures the effective and efficient provision of pharmaceutical care for the patients of ambulatory care pharmacies.5. Responsible for dissemination, interpretation and practice of departmental and hospital policies, procedures, regulations and information.6. Reviews departmental operations for effectiveness with the use of computer print-outs for labor distribution and productivity analysis.7. Directs, assists and resolves problems encountered by area managers, in assigned ambulatory care pharmacy sections, in the development of objectives, physical facility, equipment and supply needs, personnel, organizational structure, work distribution and operational processes.8. Responsible for the annual budget preparation after consulting with area managers as to needs; monitor budget of assigned pharmacy sections during fiscal year.9. Assures compliance with quality assurance standards, licensing requirements, pharmacy and MOH laws and regulations; takes remedial action to resolve or improve deficient operational conditions or problems.10. Performs clinical pharmacy functions as required, to include providing drug information to patients and other health care providers.11. Serves on and participates in activities of the P&T Committee, Medication Use Subcommittee, P&TSubcommittees, and/or other Hospital/medical staff committees as assigned.12. Maintains pharmacy licenses, security and control drug accountability.13. Interviews, selects, hires, and trains senior pharmacy staff, and evaluates pharmacists, technicians and other support personnel in the performance of duties.14. Develops and updates departmental policies and procedures. Assures appropriate drug use and distribution throughout King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre.15. Develops quality improvement and competency assessment indicators.16. Works with the medical staff, nursing and other health care professionals to resolve drug-related problems.17. Participates in hospital and departmental quality improvement activities through the development of goals and actions plans to further the corporate mission of quality health care.Participates in activities of quality improvement teams when requested. Monitors assigned quality improvement indicators of individual or departmental performance.18. Assures the appropriateness of a medication order, including age-related factors, before preparing or permitting the distribution of the first dose.19. Follows all Hospital related policies and procedures.20. Participates in self and others education, training and development, as applicable.EducationCompletion of Pharm.D. Degree or Master?s Degree in Pharmacy and Pharmacy Residency program from an accredited College of Pharmacy after completion of Bachelor?s Degree in Pharmacy is required.Experience RequiredSeven (7) years of related hospital pharmacy experience in a tertiary care setting including four (4) years of experience in Senior, Supervisor or Managerial capacity in a large, complex Hospital, health care institution or related health care organization required with Pharm.D. Degree or ten (10) years of similar requirements with Master?s Degree required.Other Requirements(Certificates)- A strong background in clinical pharmacy practice coupled with pharmacy operations responsibilities is preferred.- A general or specialized pharmacy residency or equivalent experience in an integrated health system is preferred.
