Job Summary:The successful applicant will contribute to the training and research mission of the BMI in the domain of machine learning, and develop a substantial sponsored research portfolio.Responsibilities:70% Develop an independent research program in machine-learning, focused in health or biomedicine, with demonstrated interest in advancing methodological tools and their application as appropriate to the biological, clinical, or public health sciences questions. The successful applicant will establish robust collaborations with investigators at UW-Madison and partner institutions as appropriate, will develop a strong sponsored funding portfolio to support their research activities, and will disseminate research results in peer-reviewed journals and at scientific conferences.20% Teach courses, usually, about one (1) graduate course per year, and train and mentor graduate students and postdoctoral researchers.10% Engage in professional and university service appropriate to the faculty rank.Institutional Statement on Diversity:Diversity is a source of strength, creativity, and innovation for UW-Madison. Examples of relevant methodological expertise include database theory and methods, data mining, natural language processing, data privacy and security, applied mathematics, image analysis, and computer vision. Require a strong methodological research program and a demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary research in basic, translational, or clinical research with the potential to thrive in the dynamic environment of the Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics and the School of Medicine and Public Health of the University of Wisconsin-Madison.Assistant professor candidates must have at least three years of relevant research experience in computer science, statistics, biomedical informatics, electrical engineering or a closely related quantitative area. This research experience may have been acquired in the doctoral degree program. Associate professor candidates must have tenure-track faculty experience in computer science, biomedical informatics, electrical engineering or a closely related quantitative area, including developing a robust research program, teaching graduate courses, mentoring graduate students, and engaging in professional and institutional service.
