This is a one-year limited-term appointment and continuation of employment is contingent upon availability of funding. Workdays are 8 to 10 hours, 4 to 5 days per week, and possibly weekends.Essential FunctionsEssential functions include, but are not limited to:
  • Canine handling, training, acclimation/socialization, welfare, and care of puppies, young adult, and adult dogs;
  • Apply basic principles of behavioral learning/conditioning in preparing dogs for varied, but primarily detection related, working and/or research tasks;
  • Observe, record, and assist in evaluating canine behavior and performance for production, research, and development activities;
  • Transports dogs locally for training/acclimation and to remote housing locations that require interstate and, occasionally, overnight travel; assists in planning and developing training and acclimation/socialization programs;
  • Follows research and development protocols;
  • Conducts demonstrations and may provide for technology transfer to other detection canine practitioners;
  • Assists in the overall management of facilities and equipment utilized by the program;
  • May guide/instruct trainees, students, or volunteers and perform other duties as necessary to support the operations of the Canine Performance Sciences Program

Operational detection canine experience. Leadership and instruction of groups/teams especially in military or other government service. Research.
