*Job no:* 495954*Work type:* Faculty 9-Month*Location:* Jacksonville (Main Campus)*Categories:* Faculty*Jacksonville State University**Assistant Professor, Chemistry*The Department of Chemistry of Jacksonville State Universitys College of Science and Mathematics is seeking to hire a scholar for an Assistant Professor of Chemistry.The Assistant Professor, in the College of Science and Mathematics provides educational services in the department of Chemistry and Geoscience to traditional and non-traditional students during the day or evening. The Assistant Professor may be required to teach Chemistry courses on campus, off-campus, and online courses depending on need of the department and location. This position has an anticipated start date of January 3, 2023.Faculty should be able to use classical, wet chemical methods and modern, instrumental methods. This person should be able to use separations such as precipitation, extraction, and distillation. They should be able to identify components based on differences in color, odor, melting point, boiling point, solubility, radioactivity or reactivity. Classical quantitative analysis uses mass or volume changes to quantify amount. Instrumental methods may be used to separate samples using chromatography, electrophoresis or field flow fractionation. Then qualitative and quantitative analysis can be performed, often with the same instrument and may use light interaction, heat interaction, electric fields or magnetic fields. Often the same instrument can separate, identify and quantify an analyte.Candidates must possess:* A PhD. in Chemistry at the time of appointment* Accomplishments sufficient to indicate the ability to meet requirements of the rank of Assistant Professor at JSU in teaching, service, and scholarly publications* Background and experience in Analytical and Physical Chemistry and teaching of instruments and analytics.The preferred candidate will possess:* Background in Analytical Chemistry and potentially Health Related Chemistry Field* Ability to conduct MEANINGFUL research with undergraduate students* Be an active MENTOR to undergraduate students and mentor effectively* Can effectively and actively TEACH students using various approaches* Commitment to Scholarly Activities, Professional Engagement, and Community ServiceLocated in the Appalachian foothills midway between Birmingham and Atlanta, Jacksonville State University was established in 1883 as a state teachers college and has grown into a public, comprehensive university with the highest percentage of accredited programs of any regional university in Alabama.
