QUALIFICATIONS

  • University degree, BComm/BComp (Hons), required CA (SA) and/or MBA desired
  • 10+ years financial/administrative management experience, ideally in a professional services firm, blue-chip corporate
  • Knowledge of core finance & accounting principles, including e.g. GAAP / IFRS, as well as working knowledge of tax and treasury
  • Senior presence and ability to develop strong, collaborative relationships with Office leaders excellent problem solving, analytic, and project management skills
  • Outstanding communication and negotiation skills
  • Strong team leader and people developer
  • High tolerance for ambiguity and exceptional professional judgement
  • Fluency in English is required, additional languages like French and/or Portuguese advantageous
WHO YOULL WORK WITHYou will be based in one of our McKinsey Africa offices which comprises locations in the following countries: Angola, Ethiopia, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria and South Africa. Additional to client service in each of these countries, the McKinsey Africa Office serves clients in a number of other African countries, based out of these physical locations. The Africa Office also works closely with countries like France and Portugal in providing client service in African countries that have strong historical ties with each of these, e.g. Francophone West Africa, Angola, Mozambique, etc.Our Africa office finance team has Finance and Accounting managers in each of the physical locations who work with the firms specialist support functions across tax and general finance and accounting (India), treasury (New York, US), WIP/AR (Poznan, Poland) and firm Finance functions. Supporting the Finance and Accounting managers in country are a mix of senior accountants and accountants.WHAT YOULL DOYou will oversee, manage, and direct the offices finance function.In this role, you will be responsible for leading the Africa office Finance team to ensure compliance with all finance requirements and financial risk management within the 6 country locations. Additionally, you will provide active support to the Africa office managing partner and also the location (country) managing partners, as well as the broader Africa McKinsey partner group.You will work with the office manager and partner group to determine finance strategy (e.g., through economic analysis, modelling and projections. You will proactively lead the finance function to meet the Offices strategic finance and accounting objectives. You will oversee the overall performance of the accounting function, including leading the recruiting, development, and evaluation of financial support staff.You will manage and provide budgeting and planning guidance for the local office. You will develop and implement robust, transparent financial management reporting processes and systems. You will also improve processes for managing client engagement economics, client billing and collection to ensure responsible economics overall and to minimize working capital demands.You will develop, propose, syndicate, and implement appropriate office cost and investment levels. You will ensure that all interactions with government and regulatory bodies, tax, corporate registrations, etc., are handled appropriately. You will integrate the office with the firms financial and technical support structures, processes and policies.You will help ensure relevant compensation and benefits programs (including mobility benefits) are structured and delivered as efficiently and tax effectively as possible. You will lead/contribute to global/regional finance initiatives, as appropriate. You will also support client committee. You will ensure compliance with internal audit requirements (all locations in Africa).
