Data Analyst, Institutional Research | |Position DetailsPosition Information Position Type Professional Staff Faculty Track Position Title Data Analyst, Institutional Research Employment Status Full Time Months 12 Campus Portland, ME Description Reporting to the Director of Institutional Research and Data Analytics, the Data Analyst is responsible for conducting in depth research on all aspects of the University for data-informed decision-making and assessment-based activities. Primary duties include, extracting, aggregating, analyzing and reporting data on students, instructional offerings, personnel and any other aspects of the university. The Data Analyst will be responsible for the aggregation and analysis of large data sets leveraged internally to support strategic planning and for required external reporting, including, but not limited to federal and state agencies, higher education surveys and other publications. Responsibilities * Create, enhance and maintain datasets for the Office of Institutional Research and Data Analytics. Apply research methods in the collection and analysis of University data.* Work directly with the Director of Institutional Research and Data Analytics and other University personnel to assure that data is available to support planning and decision making.* Maintain on-going awareness of how the University uses its enterprise level database and how it impacts reporting.* Work with other offices to facilitate the development of actionable metrics assessing institutional performance.* Develop project-specific analytic plans, data manipulation and collection efforts.* Manipulate and build large datasets from data sources to support analyses through use of IBM COGNOS and/or MS Access.* Design and implement data management and quality control procedures.* Provide interpretation of data to key stakeholders and leadership. This includes identifying and reporting data patterns and abnormalities and presenting analyses of key metrics and trends.* Collaborate with other data analyst team members to ensure congruency of reporting and to identify/rectify limitations in data sources and data delivery options.* Complete mandated reports and surveys for internal use and external agencies.* Conduct independent research and data analysis.* Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor?s degree in a quantitative or analytical field such as business, mathematics or sciences plus 1-3 years of related experience or a combination of education and experience from which comparable skills are acquired. * Participation in data analysis projects.* Experience with using and/or implementing data reporting tools.* Knowledge of database structures and database querying tools.* Expert proficiency in Excel, and Advanced knowledge of other MS Office Applications.* Flexibility to learn new software and implement changes based on the changing needs of the University.* Ability to design rich data visualizations to communicate complex ideas to business partners and leadership.* In depth understanding of best practices in the areas of data analysis and management.* Demonstrated ability to maintain a climate of strong ethics, trust, and credibility; work collaboratively with units across the institution.* High level of analytical ability, emotional intelligence, and organizational, communication, and relational skill.* The Data Analyst must ensure a high level of confidentiality at all times.
