Job Description

TITLE: ACCOUNTANT/CASHIERREPORTS TO: FINANCE MANAGERPrimary Functions:The Accountant will be an important member of the Financial Accounting Section. Reporting to the Financial Manager, the accountant will be involved in all aspects of financial activities. Working as part of a team will have full involvement in accounting issues, supporting faculty-based accountants and senior finance staff.The accountant must be self-motivated, but also able to work well as part of a team. They should be highly skilled in the use of word processing and spreadsheet packages, such as Microsoft Excel, and have a very good working knowledge of focus.Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing cash counter.
  • Maintaining the petty cash book and administering the petty cash floats.
  • Contribute positively and effectively to the operation of the unit?s team.
  • Good interpersonal skills with a demonstrated commitment to customer services and capability to deal with a wide range of people within and outside the organization.
  • Ability to effectively work in a team environment delivering accounting and reporting services.
  • Oversee and manage the day-to-day accounting for all entries.
  • Updating the payable accounts on the receipt of properly approved invoices and processing invoices for payments on the due dates.
  • Ensuring that all fee settlements are done after proper reconciliation.
  • Control and manage suspense accounts balance and ensure being cleared on a regular basis.
  • Review sundry nominal debtor and creditor accounts to ensure accounts are being used appropriately and are correctly stated in the accounts.
  • Review of allocations to ensure that all central allocations adjustments have been correctly posted.
  • Responsible with other senior colleagues in Finance for the month-end and year-end with the closure of ledgers and reconciliation of control accounts.
  • Demonstrated ability to work to and meet deadlines and to work to deadlines under pressure if required.
  • Accurately produce and maintain manual and computer files and hard copy filing systems for each property in accordance with procedure.
  • Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Demonstrate intermediate to advanced skills and knowledge of Excel, as well as other Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong analytical, communication, and computer skills.
  • Experience with accounting software
  • Minimum 2-3 years experience in accounting/finance.
  • Experience with financial reporting requirements
  • Highly detail-oriented
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills.
