We are looking for Marine Research Engineer for Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.Position Summary We seek a recent B.Sc. or M.Sc. graduate with a background in electrical or mechanical engineering and an interest in oceanographic instrumentation. Our current research effort employs high frequency radar to measure surface currents, autonomous vehicles to map ocean properties, and other electronic and/or optical sensor systems. You will work with an experienced team of engineers and scientists who work together to support ocean observational resources. This effort focuses on observations in both the Red Sea and the Gulf of Arabia. We seek individuals who have strong interdisciplinary interests and are capable of working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary group. Some travel within the Kingdom will be required. Operational sites are deployed along the Red Sea from the Jeddah Region to north of Dubai. Additional sites will be located along the Arabian Gulf. Training on specific instrumentation may require international travel to vendorled training workshops. Scope of Work1.Work with engineering team in Client Coastal and Marine Resources Core Laboratory (CMRCL) to learn maintenance and management of CODAR high frequency radar surface current measuring systems, autonomous underwater glider systems, and other relevant sensor systems2.Work with the science team and CMRCL in the design of robust procedures and design to ensure high quality performance of our sensor systems. 3.Perform routine maintenance on the CODAR systems (located along the Red Sea coast and 5 in the Gulf of Arabia) to ensure reliable operation. Interruptions of service may require unplanned emergency visits. 4.Oversee maintenance and operation of glider deployments in the Red Sea, in collaboration with CMRCL and the scientific technical lead. 5.Design and implement field sensors systems in addition to the CODAR and glider systems ? includes developing prototypes, integrating sensor systems, power supplies and communications. Many of these are underwater systems requiring special consideration for housings and antifouling. 6.Follow, draft and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), wiring diagrams and schematics.
