Senior Solar Engineer

Job Description

The role will involve working within the Solar department in the Renewables Advisory service area in the region Middle East and Northern Africa (MENA), providing technical advisory services throughout the development, procurement, construction and operation phases of solar projects , including procurement assistance, technical due diligence and acting as Lender s and Owner s Engineer for a range of customers spanning developers, financial institutions and government entities.The work will also involve the management of projects, resourced from several competence areas, alongside the management of customer interfaces. These projects are expected to be mostly in solar PV but may also involve coordination of projects including CSP, other renewable projects, battery storage and grid connection. Deliver contracts in accordance with agreed budgets, profitability and time frames and to the satisfaction of the Customer. The candidate must be proficient in solar resource and energy production assessment using PVSyst and other relevant software.Key Accountabilities:The provision of technical advice to customers including:? Solar Resource Assessment? Energy Production Assessment? Design optimization of solar PV plants (residential, commercial and utility scale)? Technology and design review of solar PV plants.? Specification assistance for all aspects of solar farm construction? Assist clients with procurement including contract negotiation and tendering? General project advice? Technical due diligence of pre-construction and operational projects? Knowledge of testing and commissioning of solar projects.? Other ad-hoc advice? Due diligence activity to include: data analysis, documentation review and risk analysis.The work also involves:? Liaising with a wide range of clients from solar farm developers to financial institutions? Work on multiple projects, managing own time to meet deadlines.? Producing written reports and other documentation for delivery to the client? Act in a supporting role for contact with the Client (Lender and Owners) and Client s project team as well as construction contractors, stakeholders and other third parties.? Wins new external work by identifying opportunities, defining solutions for customers and bidding for contracts.? Able to be bid manager for small and medium bids within own service area.? Networks with senior professionals outside DNV GL and understands professional and business issues of customer industry.? Is proactive and responsive to customers and provides solutions to customer needs.? Is able to be project manager for small and medium sized projects including several competence areas.? Demonstrates clear accountability and ability to make own decisions in work? Networks with senior professionals within own profession inside DNV GL to build and share competence? Contributes to development of DNV GL best practices and services within own profession? Combines technical and commercial understanding of customer challenges? Provides professional support and guidance to less experienced personnel? Actively contributes to the success of the team and collaborates to create results? Builds good personal and professional relationshipsPosition QualificationsOn appointment the candidate must have:? A minimum of 5 years of experience in the international PV solar industry.? A minimum of 2 years of experience in a technical consulting capacity.? Proven experience in energy production assessment using PVSyst.? Proven experience in solar PV plants design and optimization.? A relevant engineering degree/higher degree in an engineering subject is preferred.? Proven ability to produce clear written reports and communicate verbally in English.? Good IT skills, and experience using MS Office suite packages.? Demonstrable ability to deliver complex tasks to tight timelines.? Good organization and time management skills.? Adaptability and able to cope with a wide variety of tasks.? Strong analytical skills.? Strong commercial acumen.? Previous experience in performing due diligence activities is preferred.? Previous onsite experience is preferred.
