  1. ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
1.1 REPORT TO : Head of the Department1.2 RESPONSIBLE FOR : Provides medical services to patients to diagnose and treat diseases and injuries of human internal organ systems, according to approved procedures as part of an integrated program of curative and preventive services.1.3 LIAISES WITH : ColleaguesReferring Physicians & other specialistNursesPatients & FamiliesOthers as related to the evaluation & care of patients
  1. JOB SUMMARY
Provides medical services to patients to diagnose and treat diseases and injuries of human internal organ systems, according to approved procedures as part of an integrated program of curative and preventive services. The Int. Med Specialist is responsible for out-patients cases and certain IP cases whose disease requires medical care at the specialist level. This includes admission and work-up of all medical patients to medical wards, and ICU as required. These patients remain the responsibility of the admitting internist from the time of admission to the date of discharge. Conducts out-patient medical consultations in the clinics by appointment and follow-up on medical problems as needed. After working hours, when on-call, is available for answering medical consultations by physicians in ER, and other in-patient services.
  1. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    1. Performs the professional duties of an internist in adherence to the Delineation of Privileges depending on the efficiency and skills of the particular individual.
    2. Answers in-patient consultations from medical or other in-patient services.
    3. Participates in the reading of EKG?s. Performs lung function studies and makes interpretations when needed.
    4. Administers Executive Health Program examinations on a regular basis.
    5. Orders diagnostic laboratory and X-ray examinations, determining the diagnosis and prescribing applicable therapy and taking the necessary preventive medicine.
    6. Reviews journals and textbooks in order to keep current on latest techniques, procedures and therapy.
    7. Participates in continuing in-service training programmes, physician?s conferences, etc.
    8. Participates in the monthly staff meeting of the Internal Medicine Service Division.
    9. Responsible for the proper practice of infection control guidelines in all clinical areas.
    10. Keeps current with emergency techniques as they emerge and evolve.
    11. Active participation and sustained qualification in all cardio-pulmonary resuscitation programs.
    12. Attends staff meetings and weekly rounds and participates in in-service activities as required, i.e., Morbidity & Mortality conferences, Peer Reviews, etc.
    13. Evidences dependability in carrying out the commitments and obligations of the position.
    1. Demonstrates the ability to listen to others in promoting effective communication.
    1. Develops thorough understanding of policies and procedures of the hospital and demonstrates respect for them.
    1. Performs other duties as assigned by the Medical Administrator or Medical Director.
    1. To follow appropriate international guidelines, DHA regulations & Joint Commission International norms while treating or managing patients as well as while discharging their professional duties.
