To perform the professional duties of a medical oncologist in accordance with the delineation of privileges as recommended by the Chief of Internal Medicine Service and approved by the Credentials Committee.
To perform his duties in the Oncology Clinic evaluating patients with cancer.
To provide care to his patients in the oncology ward and medical wards.
To provide consultation services to the in-patient services in his area of expertise.
To supervise the nurses in the oncology clinic in the administration of chemotherapy.
To share in the on-call duties of the Internal Medicine Service. The oncologist is an Internist as well as a medical oncologist and is expected to perform all the duties performed by an internist.
To provide consultation service to the cancer committee and tumor registry.ÿ
Provides after-working-hours on-call emergency coverage for oncology emergencies.
MEDICAL ONCOLOGIST:ÿ
Provides supervision and education to the oncology unit staff, nurses, and tumor registrars.
Participate in the monthly staff meeting of the Internal Medicine Service.
Attends and contributes to the daily morning Chiefs conference for the purpose of reviewing admissions and management problems.
Participates and contributes to the educational activities in the service: daily noon conferences, weekly grand rounds, monthly journal club, and the general physicians twice monthly conferences.
Performs additional duties as assigned by the Chief of Service (e.g. committee membership).
Participates and contributes to all the quality assurance activities of the service (e.g. monthly mortality and morbidity conferences, peer review, audit, and chart review).
Supervises the work of ward physicians, professional development physicians, and interns, and provides his evaluation of their work at the request of the Chief of Service.
Performs duties in general internal medicine clinics/wards, as assigned by the Chief of Service and as workload dictates.
