Job Description

The opportunityProject: The Mace legal team provides legal support for the Mace business worldwide across the consult, construct and operate business engines. The team is seeking specific support for Mace Consult in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region, based with our regional commercial teams in either Dubai or Riyadh. Candidates should be able to demonstrate a pragmatic, commercial approach to law with expertise in the construction industry. Working with commercial stakeholders and the local leadership team, the ideal candidate will embed Maces Group-wide governance in the MEA business, linking into the London-based legal team but operating day to day relatively autonomously in a very commercial environment. Experience in both private practice and in-house is an advantage. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing appointment contracts received with client tenders to identify risks to Mace.
  • Drafting of appointment contracts and joint venture agreements, drafting supply chain step-down contracts.
  • Coordinating commercial teams to manage the process of contract review through to the signing of contracts and ad hoc advice through the life of the project.
  • Contribute to legal department training sessions for commercial colleagues.
  • Updating precedent documents.
  • Assisting commercial colleagues in managing and mitigating potential dispute situations, and raising and managing insurance notifications.
  • Work with Maces insurance brokers and occasionally with external counsel.
About youYou have a legal qualification in-house or in a private practice construction team, risk reviews, negotiation of bespoke forms of consultancy appointment, and all ancillary documentation such as NDAs, collateral warranties, PCGs, performance bonds, sub-contract/sub-consultant contracts, LOAs, you have an understanding of insurance, public procurement law, and dispute avoidance, familiarity with industry-standard forms of contract eg FIDIC, and you are fluent business and legal English (spoken and written). You are digitally savvy, can build lasting client relationships, and lead strong, motivated teams. You must have experience in programme or project management equating quality and value with the individual clients and be hungry to grow your career and enjoy the opportunities Mace has to offer.
