Plan and oversee all land surveying operations for infrastructure projects including highways, roads, bridges, railways, airports, dams, levees, pipelines, and utilities.
Determine survey requirements for projects. Select appropriate survey methods and equipment.
Research legal records, deeds, maps, and other documents to obtain survey data. Identify rights-of-way, boundaries, elevations, contours, and other features.
Lead field survey teams. Coordinate daily activities and assign tasks. Train and mentor survey technicians and assistants.
Oversee data collection and verification. Ensure accuracy and completeness.
Prepare and certify legal descriptions, survey reports, maps, profiles, and other documents.
Coordinate with government agencies, engineering firms, construction contractors and other stakeholders. Provide expert testimony in legal matters as needed.
Oversee surveying compliance with legal rules, regulations, and standards. Maintain licensing requirements.
Evaluate new surveying technology and techniques. Recommend improved procedures and equipment.
Manage budgets, schedules, and staffing for the surveying department.
