*Herd manager job - somerset* We are looking for a herd manager to manage our farm consisting of a closed herd of pedigree British Friesians and pedigree Ayrshires kept on a grass based system, calving all year round. As herd manager, your main focus will be on the cattle, with typical tasks including: * Milking in a 16:16 herringbone parlour, with milk meters and ACRs (9 milkings in a full week). * Managing the grazing, and the growing of grass with the assistance of external contractors, including the implementation of a paddock grazing system. * Day to day management of the herd, including yard work (feeding, scraping and bedding mainly mechanised). * Calving, heat detection and general cow health checks, working in partnership with the vet and AI technician to ensure the health of the herd. * Calf rearing. High standards of stockmanship and a keen eye for detail are vital for the role, along with someone who can adapt to situations that they are faced with. * Location South West* Salary Unspecified* Hours Full Time* Position Permanent
