Mercy Corps integrates crosscutting themes of youth, gender equality and empowerment, governance, natural resource management and technology.***The Position* Civil society and media are vital to advancing effective and inclusive civic engagement and participation in Jordan, yet they face profound challenges, including shrinking civic space, mistrust among their constituents and complex new threats to their long-term sustainability. The Strengthening Civil Society System (Sawt) project is a 5-year USAID funded project that aims at supporting sustained civic engagement in Jordan through civil society and digital media innovations through Good, Trusted Knowledge-Building Resources and Participation & Advocacy. Mercy Corps as a consortium partner with Internews (the consortium Lead Partner), Al Jidara, International Center for Non-Profit Law (ICNL) and the Arab Renaissance for Democracy and Development (ARDD) (the Sawt team), Mercy Corps will be working closely with all partners to achieve the project goals but will be specifically responsible to lead the Civil Society strengthening and Advocacy component, to achieve results on the CIVIL SOCIETY LEGITIMACY AND PERFORMANCE, Mercy Corps will work with CSOs and other civil society actors to improve their performance and capacity to serve their constituencies, build sustainable networks and lead impactful advocacy and citizen engagement. Advocacy Coordinator will be responsible for the implementation and follow up of all Advocacy activities, to make sure activities are implemented according to schedule, budget, and quality. S/he will provide support and supervision to the Advocacy Regional Officers and will be responsible for outlining a work plan for the implementation of the Advocacy capacity building and activities.*Essential Responsibilities* * Play an active role in identifying and developing new initiatives that foster and/or improve strategic objectives of the project.* Coordinate operations related to the project implementation according to the work plan, budget and implementation strategy.* Review and update implementation plans and field visit schedules with the guidance and support from Advocacy specialist.* Establish and maintain good working relationships with the program stakeholders in targeted communities including community leaders, relevant government bodies, CSOs, and communities.* Coordinate Advocacy Officers day-to-day implementation of project activities.* Travel/ drive to project locations as planned and required.* Insure proper communication coordination with other team members* Provide support to financial, administrative, and logistical tasks such as issuing Purchase Requests, Payment Requests, and Procurement Plans.* Facilitate the participation of selected youth in the advocacy labs.* Coordinate the implementation of sub-grants and provided day-to-day follow up on the activities conducted through CSOs.* Create and sustain a work environment of mutual respect where team members strive to achieve excellence.* Promote accountability, communicate expectations and provide constructive feedback to Advocacy Officers.* Coordinate and manage relationships with the stakeholders of the project, including beneficiaries, project participants, experts and consultants, local government and other organizations.* Document all program activities, achievements and challenges in monthly reports and by any other means as requested by the Team Leader.* Ensure Quality Management standards are mainstreamed for effective implementation of the project in targeted host communities.* Review and update work plan throughout the program.* Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission.* Other duties as assigned.* Coordinate with procurement, logistics, and security, administration, and human resources teams to ensure operational systems support advocacy activities.* Accountable to PM@MC (Mercy Corps Project Management) minimum standard implementation within the program.*Supervisory Responsibility* Three Advocacy Officers*Accountability*Reports Directly To:Advocacy SpecialistWorks Directly With:Organizational Capacity Senior Coordinator,Civic Engagement specialist, Advocacy specialist, MEAL advisor, procurement team, and finance team*Accountability to Participants and Stakeholders* Mercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to our program participants, community partners, other stakeholders, and to international standards guiding international relief and development work.
