Job Description

This position is responsible for the development and delivery of quality of ready mix concrete and its related materialsin conformance with specifications. This individual will be responsible for performing and or supervising routine tests as required on raw materials, in-process components, and finished delivery of products. The Quality Control (QC) Manager will participate and direct technicians in the performance of tests, inspections, processing methods, materials qualifications, and troubleshootingKey Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Supervises daily quality control operations and QC field personnel in all lines of business (Aggregates, Concrete, ).
  • Requires an extensive knowledge of aggregate, and respective test standards
  • Perform and or supervise control tests on new mix designs and concrete mixes.
state including slump, air content, temperature, unit weight, and cast strength specimens. Analyze test results and make necessary adjustments as needed to assure quality products that meets specifications. * Monitor all aggregate, admixture, cement, and associated products testing including sieve analysis, specific gravities, etc.
  • Perform and or supervise the routine sampling of raw materials for gradation, segregation and inter-mingling or contamination of the various aggregates.
  • Troubleshoot product issues in the field with plant manager, operations manager, sales, and QC field technician, and conduct problem resolution with customer upon approval from General Manager and Sales Manager.
  • Monitor project websites for upcoming project bid specifications, specification changes, and certifications.
  • Attend pre-project conferences.
  • Review all State and Commercial project specifications prior to projects being bid.
  • Supervise the preparation of all concrete mix and material certifications and submittals for State and Commercial work.
  • Responsible for the development of all concrete and hot-mix asphalt mix designs.
  • Confers with plant managers and production personnel to establish project schedules according to factors such as truck capacities, distances to delivery site, and unloading time.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with General Managers, Plant Managers, Sales Manager, in-house testing personnel, state and local testing labs, and existing and new customers.
  • Initiate and conduct training, certification, and recertification testing for QC field and plant technicians, and maintain training records on all certified employees.
  • Upon approval from their supervisor, attends associated industry meetings.
  • Maintain clear and precise record keeping according to various DOT, CRH & industry requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.This individual must have knowledge of all raw materials that are produced including aggregate, concrete, and hot-mix asphalt. They must also understand aggregate gradations, how to perform and how to blend mix constituents, to establish a combined gradation, and interpret results. They should have concrete and asphalt mixture knowledge of usage and applications. Knowledge of ASTM standard that refer to construction materials and perform basic ASTM/AASHTO test methods.Education and/or Experience
  • Associate degree in Construction Technology/Management, Civil Engineering or equivalent of five years of related experience and/or training.
  • ACI Level I Field Testing Technician and any state certifications required. NRMCA and or NICET certifications highly preferred.
