Job Description

Basic Purpose of the role:Responsible for rendering professional nursing care to patients within the operating theatre , ensuring that nursing care is an integral part of the total patient care , working in conjunction with the medical staff and according to policies and procedures of the hospital. This will be in keeping with the accepted principles or professional nursing practice.Key responsibilities of the role:Responsible for rendering professional nursing care to patients within the operating theatre , ensuring that nursing care is an integral part of the total patient care , working in conjunction with the medical staff and according to policies and procedures of the hoResponsible for the implementation and delivery of age appropriate patient care congruent with the mission, vision and values of the organisation.Collaborates with nursing staff and multidisciplinary teams on effective patient management.Liaise with other health care providers as necessary to ensure appropriate and timely interventions for patients and for discharge planning.Provides a comprehensive clinical handover / report as required to ensure patient safety using SBAR principles.Establish priorities of care, nursing actions and desired outcomes in a timely manner.Good knowledge of contemporary nursing practices.Manages clinical and operational activities and ensure the provision of optimum clinical care, customer satisfaction and patient safety.Demonstrate ability to adapt to varied age-specific patient populations.Demonstrate maturity and accountability for job performance.Maintains an effective rapport with patients, visitors, physicians, subordinates and other directors.Good judgment and analytical ability in preparing work for review.Promotes confidentiality and uses complete discretion when discussing information.Works collaboratively with other staff members to provide continuous service to the organisation.Ability to express self in the areas of communication verbal, written and non-verbal.Demonstrates knowledge of current computer system used in the organisation.Demonstrates adherence to safety and risk management policies as evidenced by in-service attendance records and employee practices.Demonstrate good communication skills, interacts effectively with patients, visitors and other staff.Ensures annual competencies are current.Attends meetings pertinent to departmentpital. This will be in keeping with the accepted principles or professional nursingQualifications, Certifications and Experience:Graduate from School of Nursing (not less than 3 years study duration from an accredited program).Bachelor of Science degree in nursing and/or Master in Nursing / Health Services Management.Maintains valid, current RN licensure from own country.BLS, PALS, ACLS, NRP certified.Certified proof of yearly CME.Specialist Nursing certifications such as Operating Theatre certificatin or Paediatric Nursing is advantageous.Minimum of 2 years clinical experience within the OTThe ability to influence and implement change.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.Able to work independently and collaboratively with others.Organized and able to work methodically.Excellent leadership skills.Able to relate to people from different cultural backgrounds.Fluent in both written and spoken English.
