Our team of over 400 engineers and developers are empowered to develop cutting-edge technology every day.Careem was established in July 2012, became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Uber Technologies, Inc. in January 2020, and today operates in over 100 cities across 12 countries.About the roleThis role will oversee the development and management of all Careem Pay compliance activities. The focus of the role will be on managing regulatory and compliance requirements pursuant to applicable payment services, e-money and financial regulations in Careem Pay?s key markets. Significant prior experience of building and managing a compliance function in a fintech company (ideally in payment services) is a prerequisite for this role.The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to efficiently and effectively map CareemPay products to applicable rules and regulatory frameworks in all relevant jurisdictions and independently lead on ensuring that all Careem Pay activities are in conformity with relevant compliance requirements on a daily basis.Key responsibilities

  • Liaising with Central Banks (primarily in UAE and KSA to begin with) to progress our license applications and other projects / initiatives requiring no-objection from the Central Banks
  • Overseeing the country MLROs and Compliance Officers in each jurisdiction
  • Developing a compliance framework for all jurisdictions that is scalable as the business grows ( and ensuring that the business benefits from the synergies of a centralized group-level Compliance function)
  • Develop an AML/CFT framework that is appropriate to the scale, complexity and risk profile of Careem Pay
  • Work closely with, and support, the Risk function, ensuring that the risk management framework is in line with the regulatory standards in each market
  • Oversee Careem Pay?s governance framework and report to Board and Risk & Compliance Committee on regulatory risks and the performance of the Compliance function
  • Conduct horizon scanning and keep up to date with changes in regulations and guidance issued by the Central Banks
  • Where necessary, provide advice to the business on compliance with regulatory requirements and compliance risk management
About you
  • Successfully completed studies at a top university in the US/UK/EU. Business administration, compliance or legal degree preferable
  • At least twelve (12) years of total professional experience in the field of compliance with at least four (4) years of experience in the specific field of international fintech compliance in US/UK/EU (startup fintech experience preferred)
  • Knowledge and proficient application of all relevant regulations such as FACTA, OFAC
  • Knowledge and experience of central bank regulations in UAE, Pakistan, Jordan, Egypt and KSA preferred but not required
  • Ability to work within a fast paced environment
  • Independent, decisive, goal-oriented, with a systematic way of working
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing
