Medical Technologist

Job Description

The Medical Laboratory Technologist will work within the laboratory under the direction of the Clinical Laboratory Supervisor, Lab Manager, and Lab Director. The Medical Laboratory Technologist will perform qualitative analysis on all specimens received in the laboratory including Microbiology, Hematology, Histology, virology ?Blood Bank, and Chemistry.

• Performs all procedures related to stat clinical Laboratory.
• Prepares all quality control samples/solutions and ascertain its values as specified by department and regulatory agencies.
• Monitors and ensures the validity of all patient test results in the laboratory.
• Verifies and documents all laboratory data entered in the Hospital Information Systems (HDS).
• Performs general and advanced system maintenance.
• Communicates with Nursing/Medical Staff regarding test performance/results/critical/panic values.
• Functions as the laboratory lead technologist in superior?s absence.
• Calibrates tests on the clinical instruments following proper procedures.
• Perform materials inventories of stat laboratory.
• Attends yearly in-service and educational training as instructed by the department/unit.
• Participates in testing Proficiency surveys received from regulatory agencies.
• Documents and communicates all laboratory dispositions to the in-coming shift supervisor/staff.
• Ability to understand and interpret clinical significances of clinical assays/tests.
