Job Description

Atkins is looking for a Structural Engineer (Design) required for a major, Iconic and complex project in KSA.Candidate must be a problem solver and be able to demonstrate working collaboratively with contractors to resolve design and site issues that arise.Structural Engineer will be fully responsible for the review and checking of all structural site works for the project including the management of inspectors and coordination of contractor design items. Main responsibilities will include:

  • Review of all contractor submittals including shop drawings and calculations
  • Coordination of all contractor design items and managing the contractor design process to ensure compliance
  • Providing solutions to overcome issues that arise on site including the provision of design checks or calculations as required
  • Ensuring construction is in compliance with relevant codes and standards
  • Maintaining and developing client relationships
  • Presenting work to internal consultants, contractors and the client through reports and presentations
  • Assisting with or leading project management and technical delivery
  • Managing the civil and structural inspections on site
  • Working with the design consultants (where necessary) to develop design and review contractor design elements.
An engineering degree (honours or equivalent) in civil or structural (essential)
  • Minimum 10 years experience in a design role
  • Chartered Engineer or in the position to imminently submit a chartership application to a recognised engineering institution is preferred
  • Considerable structural analysis and/or design experience and ability to check steelwork design and connections
  • Experience in ETABS, SAP 2000, SAFE etc.
  • Good presentation skills and the ability to interface with clients (Essential)
  • Project control and management experience (essential)
  • Interest in staff development and line management (essential)
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills is a must
  • BIM / Revit capability preferred
  • Faade experience preferred
  • Track record on complex projects desirable
  • Ability to work closely with the contractor to solve problems on site
  • Positive attitude towards the work and ability to work under pressure is essential
  • The ability to lead or work within a team of engineers and designers
  • Self motivated and able to research and work on own initiative
  • Drive and enthusiasm to progress to higher grades within the organisation
  • Acceptance of responsibility for work carried out
  • Flexible working attitude and availability to work outside normal hours if required
  • Assist in the development of junior team members
