AKU?s Faculty of Health Science (FHS) in Karachi enablesaspiring medical professionalsto deliver quality patient care, toadvance healthcare policy and tomake a difference in the communities it serves.The Faculty of Health Sciences Library supports the teaching, learning and research programmes of the University by selecting, acquiring, and organizing relevant and up-to-date information resources and ensuring efficient and effective dissemination to all library users. It provides access to comprehensive and multi-disciplinary information resources in print and digital formats. This access is provided through innovative services and state-of-the-art systems. The library is part of WHO EMRO libraries network and is actively involved in various projectsJob Role / Responsibilities:The Senior Librarian, FHS Library will oversee overall library activities ensuring effective management and supervision as well as providing focused services in line with policies and procedures. Responsible for formulation and implementation of library policies, rules and regulations; library development initiatives and future planning. Liaise with the Deans of Medical College, School of Nursing & Midwifery, and Dean of Research, relevant faculty members, and Associate Vice Provost & University Librarian for development of library functions.You will be responsible for:

  • developing and managing library services that serve the needs of FHS, Outreach hospitals in Pakistan
  • delivering of library services and generating statistics of services provided at FHS & Outreach hospitals in Pakistan
  • overseeing the selection and acquisition of information resources
  • developing, reviewing and implementing library policies and procedures
  • drawing up and submitting library budgets
  • maintaining cooperation with local, regional and international academic libraries and consortia
  • preparing and coordinating the execution of regular information literacy programmes to all library users at FHS & Outreach hospitals in Pakistan
  • promoting and marketing library and information services to both internal and external stakeholders
  • fostering collaborative strategies with AKU libraries and other stake holders
  • contributing to strategic planning and decision making in improving the library facility at FHS & Outreach hospitals in Pakistan
  • undertaking teaching and research activities at FHS & Outreach hospitals in Pakistan
  • providing guidance in academic integrity
  • managing staff by drawing up/review job descriptions for library staff and ensuring duties allocated are performed in FHS & Outreach hospitals in Pakistan
  • keeping abreast of trends in higher education, library & information science, data science, data visualization, relevant developments in IT, learning technologies and teaching practices.
Eligibility Criteria / Requirements:You should have:
  • a Masters degree in Library Science or equivalent. MPhil/PhD holders or enrolled in such programs will be given preference
  • 15 years of experience as a Librarian in an academic environment, five of which must have worked at a senior librarian level or equivalent
  • a background in an academic health sciences library will be an added advantage
  • demonstrated record of professional service and scholarly engagement that includes
  • presentations, publications, and committee service on campus, regional, and national-level organizations
  • in-depth knowledge of the process of setting up and managing an academic library
  • ability to provide in depth reference consultation and instruction on the development of literature searches in support of evidence-based practice and systematic reviews
  • demonstrated ability to carry out a liaison program through outreach, building relationships, and providing library services and support to diverse stakeholders
