Research Associate, Pathology and Laboratory MedicineEntityMedical CollegeLocationKarachi, Pakistan˙Introduction:The Aga Khan University was found in 1983 as Pakistan?s first private university, Aga Khan University is a not-for-profit institution and an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network. Starting in 2000, the University expanded to Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, United Kingdom and Afghanistan. AKU began life as a health-sciences university.˙˙The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Aga Khan University is a unique/distinguish establishment which serves the clinical laboratory of Aga Khan University Hospital with academic interest. This department is heavily engaged in undergraduate, postgraduate and technologist training programs. It provides professional training for higher degree in four major areas of Pathology (Chemical Pathology, Hematology, Histopathology, and Microbiology). Currently, there are approximately 61 Faculty, including 3 part time, 2 visiting faculty members, and 41 Residents.Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Research Associate, Pathology & Laboratory Medicine. Malaria elimination in Pakistan comes at a critical time in the global malaria elimination plan. The plan envisions the development of a Malaria Elimination Consortium (MEC) which will bring together technical, program, and policy expertise of the nations into formal structures with roles and responsibilities assigned by the Government leaders at the highest levels.This is a grant-funded contractual position.ResponsibilitiesYou will be responsible for:

  • facilitating meetings with research collaborators and funders, including technical discussions and routine updates
  • developing meeting agendas and track action items
  • contributing comprehensive and transparent knowledge management for assigned research activities
  • supporting collaborative development of research concept notes and protocols
  • creating research activity work plans and monitoring progress to ensure timely implementation and outputs
  • working collaboratively to identify and solve logistics, administration, programmatic, technical and/or communications bottlenecks as they arise to support timely and high-quality implementation of project activities
  • monitoring the quality of research activities through remote supervision and field visitssummarizing activities, progress towards targets, outputs for meetings, routine updates, and quarterly and annual reports
  • supporting development of dissemination and communications materials, including developing content for briefs, website updates, reports, and presentations
  • developing SOPs for the project and administrative processes and procedures to facilitate standardized practices at all field sites, training of staff as per projects requirements
  • working closely with administrative staff to ensure discipline, sufficient supplies and optimal staff at the field sites on a day-to-day basis˙
  • preparing and compiling study progress report in collaboration with the Data Manager and
  • producing monthly project reports present the study results as per the requirement.
RequirementsYou should have:
  • a Master?s degree in Public Health, Health Administration, Public Policy or a related field from an HEC recognised or reputable foreign university
  • at least three years of experience working on a public health project
  • training and experience in public health field research design and implementation (e.g., quantitative and/or qualitative survey methods, assessments, disease surveillance)
  • ability to work effectively within collaborative partnerships between multiple institutions towards planning and implementing activities desired
  • strong organizational skills, high level of attention to detail, and effectiveness under deadlines
  • ability to work both independently with limited supervision and as part of a team
  • ability to effectively use computer tools like Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, data management and analysis softwares ie. REDCap, SPSS, Stata etc. ˙˙
  • exceptional skills in project management and/or coordination, including development and management of work plans, comprehensive documentation, and knowledge management.
