Job Description

We are seeking to recruit on behalf of our client a DIRECTOR OF AVIATION SAFETY n a 2-year renewable contract.PurposeThe Director of Aviation Safety is responsible for providing guidance and direction for the planning, implementation, and operation of the airport safety management system (SMS) and to demonstrate excellent safety behaviour and attitude, follow regulatory practices and rules, recognize, and Promote hazard reporting, ensure effective safety reporting, and provide and articulates information regarding safety issues within the organization.The Director of Aviation Safety acts as an information conduit to bring safety issues to the attention of management and to deliver safety information to the organization?s staff, contractors, and stakeholders.While the airport has not operationally started, the candidate will start work within the Airport Operational Readiness Team as a part of this team in his specialty until the operation of the airport started, his responsibility is to make the airport ready for operation for Passenger Service requirements. The candidate will report directly in this phase to the (AORT) team leader.Experience/QualificationsBachelor?s Degree from a recognized/accredited university,A minimum of Five (5) years working experience in this field,Licenses and certificates will support the qualification level.Broad operational knowledge and experience in the functions of the organization (e.g., training management, aircraft operations, air traffic management, aerodrome operations, and maintenance organization management);Sound knowledge of safety management principles and practices.Must be willing to work nonconventional work hours as assigned to attend training, inspections, emergencies, etc.Motivate personnel and develop team spirit and a positive atmosphere.Willing to work in a time-sensitive and fast paced environment.Clearly define expectations and assignments.Exhibit flexibility, decisiveness, and a calm demeanour in high-pressure situations and contingencies.Communicate effectively and convincingly verbally and in writing.Develop and implement a vision, strategies, and goals.Act in a DUTY capacity to respond to emergency calls.Establish and maintain effective work relationships with superiors, subordinates, co-workers, and the public.Critically analyse situations quickly and objectively utilizing a good judgment.Cope with stressful or emergency situations calmly and effectively.The normal working hours for this position will vary based on operational needs.Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written and able to read, write, speak, and understand English.Duties/ResponsibilitiesActs as an information conduit to bring safety issues to the attention of management and to deliver safety information to the organization?s staff, contractors, and stakeholders.Provides and articulates information regarding safety issues within the organization.Lead the continuous improvement of the hazard identification and safety risk assessment schemes and the organization?s SMS.Identify and recall the airport Safety Management System (SMS), Safety Policy, and behavioural standards.Act as a liaison with the ICAA and other external agencies on safety related issuesDevelop and/or oversee the execution of the airport operations, maintenance, and systems are following the regulations.Design and direct the activities of the operational Safety & SMS teams, including related investigations to promote a safety culture.Interact frequently with other departments leadership to ensure follow- through and completion of milestones related to ad-hoc or long-term safety related projects.Partner with operational leadership to ensure operations are conducted without unnecessary safety risk and/or threat to people and/or property (including identifying trends and making recommendations to Leadership)Liaise with other functional departments to ensure safety programs are integrated into day-to-day operations as required by the airport SMS.In the event of an accident or significant incident, leads the airport Accident Investigation Team and serves as the ICAA and other regulators party coordinator.
