Job Description

Reporting to the Superintendent of Student Education, the Mental Health Lead plays a vital role in developing and facilitating the implementation of the board?s Strategic Plan for Mental Health and addictions as well as supporting the work of student well-being embedded within the Near North District School Board?s Multi-Year Strategic Plan and Board Improvement Plan for Student Achievement and Well-Being. The Mental Health Lead will work with a range of stakeholders, including system portfolio leaders, school administrators and staff, students, parents, and community partners to support these system priorities.As a Mental Health Leader, you will be part of a dynamic leadership team dedicated to making a difference in the lives of the children and youth that we serve in the Near North District School Board.Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide board-wide direction in Mental Health and wellness promotion, education, initiatives, resources, policies, and procedures;
  • Work with system leaders within the board and community to develop, implement and communicate a comprehensive Mental Health and Student Well-Being Strategy that promotes positive equity and inclusivity alongside child and youth mental health and responds to emerging mental health needs of the students in the NNDSB iWork with the Children?s Mental Health lead agency and community partners to identify service delivery gaps in the area of mental health and addictions for children and youth
  • Draw on clinical expertise and leadership experience working to inform board planning and support capacity building focused on mental health awareness, mental health literacy and mental health expert to educators and all staff groups based on their role.
  • Collaborate with community partners and initiatives to facilitate system navigation and develop service pathways to care for the NNDSB students
  • Liaise, participate in and implement all Ministry of Education expectations for Mental Health Leaders.
  • Work closely with School Mental Health Ontario ASIST including:?
  • Attending regional meetings and sharing information with board stakeholders;
  • Contributing to knowledge exchange with Mental Health Leaders from other districts in Ontario;
  • Provide direct clinical and performance supervision to the Mental Health Team
  • Demonstrate leadership in the development and delivery of capacity-building learning opportunities focused on addressing student mental health needs in coordination with system stakeholders;
  • Provide timely dissemination of resources for students, parents, and educators provided by School Mental Health
  • Assist in the selection, vetting and implementation of evidenced-based mental health promotion and practices including social emotional learning and prevention programming.
  • Provide oversight and direction on required documentation and data collection on individual students that maintains confidentiality and compliance to various legislations.
  • Other related duties as assigned
