Duties and Responsibilities.0 Duties and Responsibilities:4.1 Leadership:4.1.1 Make certain that highest standard of clinical care is maintained utilizingthe nursing process.4.1-2 Efficiently organize and managethe staff efficiently contributing to thenew innovation /technology utilizing the availablenursing resources within the aisignedarea.4.1.3 Provide leadership and act as a rolemodel for the staff at all times .Administration:4.1.1 Ensure annual leave, shifts and duties are locatedto nursing staff and ensure unitis adequately staff throughout the24 hours.4.1.2 Coordinate and monitor activities of staff and all servicesto patients.4.1.4 Anticipate, identifies potential /actual problems and resolution of problems,recommending change to policies as necessary.4.1.5 Ensure effective communication within the unit/department between nursing staff/ patient / significant others and allied health care personnel.4.1.6 Report all unusual occurrences / problems / resolutions to the Nursing ShiftSupervisor ,Deputy Director of Nursing and / or to the Director of Nursing.4.1.7 Ensure optimal staffsafety, welfare and developmen| participating in on-goingcounseling and in the formal appraisal procedures; promotes good staffrelationships.4.1.8 Ensure the consistent / accurate preparation of nursing records.4.1.9 Ensure that staff is able to use unit equipment and that appropriate measures aretaken to ensure4.1.9.1 proper maintenance;4.1.9.2 orders unit supplies,4.1.9.3 pharmacy, and4.1.9.4 ensures the most economic use of all resources, both material andpersonnel.4.1.10 Maintain the control of storage and administration of drugs, including narcotics.4.1.11 Assists with planning / implementing of change either in the unit or in the wholenursing department as well.4.1.12 Perform other applicable tasks and duties within the realm of his / her knowledge,skills and abilities as delegated / assigned.4.f.13 Responsible for maintaining adequate levels of consumables and reporting stockshortage (PAR Level) .4.1.14 Ensure monthly reports are completed and in timely manner4.1.15Secure patients files, ensures that the files are complete and they are retumed toMedical Records on discharge as delegated to the ward clerk or porter.4.1.16 Conduct on - going in - service lectures.4.1.17 Develop unit policies and procedures in collaboration with head of the departmentand other relevant staff.4.1.18 Promptly reports to Deputy Director of Nursing , Director of Nursing and assistsin investigating complaints and incidents in relation to patient care in accordance withHospital Policy.4.1.19 Collaborates with medical staffand all other allied health care professionals onmaffers of patient care and any activity that could affect the delivery of that care.4.1,20 Takes immediate action on identified hazards or potential hazards and ensures allstaff are aware of steps taken.4.1.21 Checks stocks and recording of Narcotic and Controlled Drugs as laid down in theappropriate procedure. Immediately reports to the Deputy Director of Nursingand Deputy Director of nursing and assists to investigate any incident of drug misuse ordiscrepancies.4.1.22 Attends meetings and serves on working groups or committees as appropriate.4.1.23 Act up as Nurse Supervisor when required to do so and perform such duty if theneed arises.4.1.24 Exercises and demonstrates effective leadership skills for both Nursing and NonNursingstaff.4.1.25 Establishes and develops effective communication with other members of thehealth care team, patients and relatives.4.1.26 Ensures that all staff are oriented into their posts and are fully aware of their rangeof duties and responsibilities within the scope of practice.4.1.27 Organizes and undertakes where necessary agreed mentoring/ preceptorship ofnew staffallocated to their designated area.
