This position is a Full-time 12 month position Monday through Friday 37.5 hours per week.SCOPE OF WORK:Supervises and coordinates the daily activities and operations of a student residence complex to ensure that residential facilities are safe, secure, and properly maintained, conducive to study, provide a living-learning environment that enhances individual growth and development, and in compliance with college or departmental policies and procedures. This position reports to the Vice President of Academic Affairs at Concord?s Community College.ACCOUNTABILITIES: * Directs the operations at an assigned NHTI residence hall; * Oversees and coordinates the training of the Resident Assistants in that hall; * Supervises student staff members and assists in their hiring, training, and evaluation; * Promotes community development and responsibility within the residence halls through creative, student-centered programming, educationally based student conduct outcomes, and strong interpersonal skills; * Develops, coordinates, and evaluates educational, cultural, social, and recreational programs to enhance student development; * Advises resident students and student groups to develop and maintain leadership opportunities for student engagement; * Maintains availability and visibility with students and groups in the residence hall(s) in order to foster an environment that promotes the academic achievement, personal development and physical comfort for resident students, and community standards; * Enforces and supports all college and departmental policies and procedures to develop a positive and orderly atmosphere with an emphasis on personal and social responsibility; * Investigates and responds to concerns and complaints of students, parents, and NHTI personnel, in a manner that provides accurate information and fosters good public relations when assigned to do so; * Works with NHTI building maintenance personnel to maintain on-going programs of hall maintenance, cleaning, and refurbishment and assists security personnel to ensure the safety and security of student residents and investigates NHTI property damage; * Responds to crisis situations and works with public safety and/or NHTI personnel in the handling of emergency situations and/or judicial matters; * Engages in professional activities that partner the college with the wider community by serving on college or system teams, or participating in community-sponsored events, as assigned; * Identifies and provides resources to support the growth and development of students; * Remains current within national trends in the Student Affairs/Residence Life field through participation in relevant professional associations and educational & training activities; * Observes all policies and procedures and institutional rules and regulations and demonstrates ethical and professional behavior; * Complies with all college, system, state and federal rules and regulations; * Is familiar with and supports best practices and compliance with CAS standards. * Other duties as assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education:Bachelors degree from a regionally accredited college or university.Experience:One year of full-time experience in the field of student development as an advisor, resident assistant, program coordinator, or counselor, preferably within a residential setting. Three years of full-time experience preferred.License/Certification:None required.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Master?s degree in education, student affairs administration, higher education administration, educational leadership or related field. Experience as a resident director.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The Resident Director position is a 12-month, live-in position. Adjustments to work schedules may be required due business necessity or emergency situations. Periodic on call hours will be requiredRECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Knowledge of student development theory and practice. Knowledge of listening skills and referral techniques. Ability to maintain rapport with faculty, students, and staff. Ability to manage a variety of tasks in a timely way. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college appointing authority. Demonstrates civility and professionalism in the workplace.
