Benefits equal over $10,000 in addition to base pay.The Early Head Start Teacher assumes primary responsibility for an Early Head Start classroom. SPECIFIC DUTIES OF THE JOB: 1. Oversee all day-to-day operations of the Early Head Start classroom to assure smooth operation and the delivery of required services. 2. Assess each child?s developmental level and use the information acquired from the assessment and other information to assure individualization for each child. 3. Develop and implement lesson plans using a variety of learning materials, activities, and experiences to challenge each child?s growth and development. 4. Develop and implement plans to involve each parent in their child?s education, including parent training and volunteer recruitment and training. 5. Provide a variety of avenues for communication with parents including home visits, parent/teacher conferences, telephone calls, center visits, letters, newsletters, anecdotal notes, etc. 6. Assists parents to increase their knowledge, understanding, skills and experiences in child growth and development, childrens behavior patterns and techniques for meeting childrens needs through home visits. 7. Assist parents to obtain the community resources and services they need. 8. Work with parents on issues and participate in problems-solving with parents and/or volunteers. 9. Assist with preparation and cleanup of all meals; eats meals with the children. 10. Assist in all cleaning duties of both the classroom and the center as requested or required. 11. Train, monitor, evaluate, and perform other supervisory functions with all staff supervised. 12. Collect and provide health information on each child as required by program. 13. Assist with parent meetings and trainings. 14. Recruit children for the Head Start and Early Head Start Programs. 15. Attend and participate in meetings, work groups, team meetings, committees, workshops, individual training and training conferences as assigned, which may include local, state, regional and national groups. This includes attending pre-service and in-service training. 16. Work to obtain volunteer and in-kind contributions for the Agency. Submit necessary documents as directed. 17. Comply with all Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency and Mid-Cumberland Head Start Policies and Procedures, Head Start Performance Standards, and other applicable Early Childhood Standards such as DHS Licensing Standards and NAEYC Accreditation Standards. 18. Other duties as assigned by Supervisor EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:Education:Minimum of High School Diploma/GED with CDA certification or CDA eligible and/or Associate Degree (A.A. or A.A.S.) in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or a related field. B.A. / B.S. preferred.Experience:Previous work with children in a preschool setting. JOB REQUIREMENTS Requirements that must be satisfied prior to attaining Regular Employment Status and updated, as requested: 1. Proof of Degree or Certification and Experience Required to meet Qualification for position 2. The ability to obtain/maintain an annual Physical Exam 3. An annual TB Test 4. Proof of liability insurance on a personal vehicle in the amount of $25,000/$50,000/$25,000 prior to being hired. 9. Proof of US Citizenship, or eligibility to work in the US Essential Physical and Mental Abilities: These functions are performed on a regular basis unless otherwise specified. 1. Ability to read, calculate, measure, plan, and compile information 2. Ability to investigate, organize, explain and present information 3. Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written form in English on a daily basis. 4. Ability to maintain a detailed recordkeeping system for each child. 5. Ability to exercise authority appropriately and make rational decisions. 6. Ability to accept direction and orders from supervisor and others in authority. 7. Ability and willingness to accept and follow through on recommendations for improvement as a result of performance appraisal, monitoring, self-assessment and daily supervision. 8. Ability to use technology and office equipment such as computer, e-mail, fax, voice mail, copiers, calculators, etc 9. Ability to go up and down stairs and to carry miscellaneous items while on stairs to access classrooms, kitchens and play areas 10. Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds on a regular basis. 11. Ability to supervise and assist children, ages 3 to 5, participating during indoor and outdoor activities including the use of gross motor equipment, walks, and field trips. 12. Ability to provide children and co-workers with a safe and secure environment using visual and/or auditory senses. 13. Ability to model and participate in activities designed for 3 to 5-year old children, including repetitive bending, stooping, sitting on the floor, and sitting on child size chairs (10-12 inches high). 14. Ability to assist in the set-up and clean-up of meals including sanitizing tables and other surfaces, washing utensils, dishes and sink, cleaning microwave ovens, warmers, and refrigerators, as needed, transporting dishes to and from storage areas, and sweeping and mopping floors. 15. Ability to set-up, maneuver around and stack equipment typically used in a classroom environment. 16. Ability to assist in maintaining health and hygiene of classroom including disposing of garbage under normal circumstances and disinfecting toilet facilities as needed. 17. Ability to supervise the arrival and departure of children including taking children on and off the school bus and evacuating children in emergency situations. 18. Ability to assist in children?s daily routines such as toileting, brushing teeth, play and quiet time. 19. Ability to lift and/or carry children ages 0 to 5 (typically 10 to 65 pounds), on a daily basis. 20. Ability to respond quickly, calmly and rationally in emergency situations. 21. Ability to respond quickly to the needs of families during program activities and in emergency situations. 22. Ability to tolerate standard cleaning solutions used in the childcare environment such as chlorine bleach. Essential Functions Related to Working Conditions: 1. Ability to manage multiple tasks, frequent interruptions and changes of pace with professionalism and composure. 2. Ability to be flexible, able, and willing to work evenings and/or irregular hours as needed. 3. Ability and willingness to travel on a regular basis to, but not limited to, local, state, and national destinations. Travel methods may include personal or agency vehicle, airplane, or train. 4. Ability to use own vehicle for work related activities when Agency vehicles are not available. 5. Ability to work and drive during periods of inclement weather. 6. Ability to effectively interact and work cooperatively as a team member with people from a variety of socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds. 7. Ability to work in a variety of environments including, but not limited to, offices, kitchens, playgrounds, buses, classrooms, community rooms and home environments of families, all of which may not be air conditioned or heated. 8.
