This position shall be filled in accordance with the provision of theOCSEA/AFSCMECollective Bargaining Agreement.ODRCbargaining unit members have selection rights before non-bargaining unit members. After the posting closes, no changes can be made. This position directs and coordinates activities of correction officers and inmates assigned to housing unit or work area.Job Duties:? Oversees and provides work direction and coordinates correction officer duties involving the custody and control of inmates ? Assigns staff to posts, gives post orders, and trains correction officers on post assignments ? Ensures that officers are alert, attentive and properly placed at their respective posts by inspecting each post ? Conducts surveillance security of institution and property ? Prevents escapes and apprehends escapees ? Makes constant rounds to inspect cells, shops, recreation areas, and/or dining rooms for cleanliness ? Uses physical force, unarmed self-defense, firearms or other force to detain or secure inmates, when necessary ? In conjunction with unit staff, arbitrates inmates disputes and investigates complaints of abuses by correction officers and/or inmates and refers to investigator, if cannot be solved ? Offers guidance to inmates with personal, institutional and/or adjustment problems. ? Responds to emergencies and security alerts ? Conducts routine sanitation and security inspections within the unit or assigned work area to ensure compliance with safety regulations, possible contraband and general security ? Performs related security functions as required (e.g., shakedowns, pat-downs, special incident reports, RIB hearings) ? Gathers information and writes reports covering accidents, fires, and inmate disciplinary actions ? Schedules inmate work assignments, inmate moves, meals, educational and recreational activities ? Serves as member of various unit committees and other inmate oriented services and discipline committees as needed ? Serves as administrative review officer and hearing officer as needed ? Orients new inmates regarding institution rules and regulations ? Completes inmate performance evaluationsQualificationsHigh school diploma or G.E.D.; 3 yrs. trg. or 3 yrs. exp. in enforcing security measures for detention of felons which included unarmed self-defense training, firearms training, & how to interact with persons having mental illness/one mental health training session. If assigned to operate vehicles regulated by Section 4506.01 of revised code, applicants must also have commercial drivers license. Or 3 yrs. exp. as Correction Officer, 46531; high school diploma or G.E.D. If assigned to operate vehicles regulated by Section 4506.01 of revised code, applicants must also have commercial drivers license. Probationary period is 180 days. Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above. Knowledge of employee training & development; supervisory principles/techniques; custody, safety & security measures for detention of adult felons; institution regulations governing custody & security operations; addition & subtraction. Skill in operation of firearms, riot control equipment, safety, security & surveillance equipment & restraining devices; unarmed self-defense. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables within familiar context; complete & maintain accurate records; demonstrate physical fitness; establish & maintain professional rapport with correctional officers & inmates.
