Animal Control OfficerAugust 19, 2022 * Full Time * Posted 21 hours agoMarion County Animal ShelterJob Title: Animal Control Officer Department: Marion County Animal Shelter Reports To: Shelter Director Summary Of Job Purpose: Responsible for enforcing laws and ordinances regarding stray, dangerous, nuisance, and unwanted domestic animals; investigates complaints; captures animals; performs other duties related to humane animal protection and control; performs all duties necessary to operate the shelter. Essential Functions: This list the major duties and requirements of the job and is not all-inclusive. You may be expected to perform job-related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job-related knowledge and skills. * Investigates complaints from the public and other agencies regarding nuisance, stray, uncontrolled, dangerous, and diseased animals.* Conducts investigations of complaints regarding animal cruelty and neglect; investigates animal bites, arranging for appropriate identification and quarantine.* Explains local laws, codes, and ordinances relating to the care and control of animals, filing of complaints, and policies of the shelter to the public.* Performs shelter duties as required; reports need for supplies and maintenance* Issues citations for violations of applicable regulations; patrols assigned areas operating County vehicles.* Captures stray animals for impounding; captures dangerous animals for impounding; transports injured animals and provides for their care.* May testify in court regarding citations and disposition of complaints. * Maintain records and prepare daily records related to all work performed.* Operate humane traps, mobile radios, cellular phones, and related animal control tools and equipment.* Identify basic symptoms of common animal diseases.* May speak to and meet a variety of community, business, and educational organizations to further goals of the shelter.* Maintain records of work performed and materials used.* Contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the shelters service to the community by offering suggestions and being and active member of the team.* Answer multiple phone calls with polite demeanor.* Records animal intake accurately.* 24 hour on call bi weekly Required to work every other weekend * Represent the County with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public. Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactory. Experience working with animals preferred but not required.
